I wouldn't have used existing core D&D classes either. Just start over using the stat and progression framework.

How they did it, & how I would is really different. Ex) spells. It throws off the feel of WoW in their show whenever one of them casts a D&D spell. I would have taken the D&D spell lists and just set them aside, & then tried to just translate the abilities spells of each WoW class into D&D.

I'm in two groups. One minimal RP, and one heavily RP. Neither games rules teaches improve/roleplaying. The rules are irrelevant to that.

There are people who are naturally good improve/roleplayers. Some that aren't but can learn. And some that have no ability or interest. A good game system is one that doesn't stand in the way of any of them.

There is no base rule system that is going to teach improve. There are systems that reward it, and incorporate it into the rules, and they all assume players can or want to. But there is NO game system that teaches it. Not one. So lumping all that on D&D is just dishonest.

IMO that isn't the rules fault. There is no book that can teach that. To be a better role player you learn so much more watching and ESPECIALLY participating with others who are roleplaying. Roleplay is basically improvisation. You don't teach improve from books. You teach improve by doing it.

There are some better 3rd party books than that Forgotten Realms book which was basically play a colonizer.

I wish I kept my 4e books. Despite all the complaints of some, calling it video game D&D, etc. I thought it was fine. IMO the most balanced edition with regard to different classes w/defined rules for actions with the at will, encounter, & daily cards which made it easy for new players to grasp.
