So this bit is really cool, I'm enjoying reading the different spell effects. I'm glad I picked up this book, it's full of character.

So I'm gonna and try to pick up this copy of DCC. If it is still available, then fate meant for me to have it, if not then... well not.

When you say tables is this effects tables with descriptions or tables with just numbers on?

Hmm quite a mixed bag there.

The Liverpool waterstones continue to have a more interesting selection of games than the dedicated gaming stores. I guess because they can afford to buy in weird shit, whereas tiny brick and mortar shops live and die on MtG and Pokemon tournament scenes

So I was making my semi regular trip to the town waterstones to stand baffled at the gaming section and there was a copy of Dungeon Crawl Classics. I was sorely tempted to get it. Thing is I already have Basic Fantasy and I like it plenty. Is DCC worth it if I already have BF?

Expensive model acrylics are terrible for terrain pieces, particularly homemade ones using paper mache or cardboard. It's too watery and gets soaked up in seconds, and you'll use lots trying to cover large surfaces. Thick cheap craft acrylics are best for terrain.

I use a lot of vallejo, which, for the most part, does a decent job. However, I would urge you not to chuck your cheaper craft paints just yet. They are much better for painting terrain and bases. I use it for priming since I can't use sprays or airbrushes.

It continues to baffle me that there are people out there who genuinely say "bro just homebrew 5th Ed, it's just as good bro"

I was thinking of this again, and I was thinking of how many first and third person video games include basic tutorials for movement and camera controls, even though they are mostly all the same, there hasn't been big changes since the invention of dual analogue controls in the PS1 era.

No, I don't think that metaphor fits, I'm afraid.

A bit. Because it's foundational to the form, and despite what I've seen a few people say, it's not as culturally ubiquitous as all that.

It's because boardgames don't tend to have as much of a common language as rpgs do. You don't need to explain the role of a banker in Cluedo because there isn't one. What common parlance you find has been around for centuries.

It's because it's a hobby as well. Wargames have a similar thing.

It's odd I think the one game I own that doesn't have a section like this is maybe Fiasco, which is odd because it's the most different.

Keeper @keeper92k.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Indeed it's why so many have got those "What is an rpg" sections.

Throwback to that time in university when a guy punched me in the stomach for not buying the latest Ed Sheeran album. Imagine physically attacking someone because they don't want to pay for wedding playlist filler, let alone listen it. What a fucking dork.

Old crons were genuinely frightening. I feel like new crons utilise their advanced tech as a crutch for actually scary background and motive. Oh, they have a universe delete button? Are they gonna use it? No? Well, shut up then.

I had a go at the first spyro, the only one from the original trilogy I hadn't played to completion on the original ps1. I was surprised at the difficulty early on and that the game has dragon eggs as a collectable.

I've occasionally encountered the take that grimdark fantasy or hard ttrpgs are fascistic coded. I think this basically comes down to a certain kind of guy who embodies a gatekeeping nerdy machismo and rarely the actual content of either.

The dragon fight at the fireworks factory really pissed me off. I mean it dropped at least 5% in my opinion for that stage alone. Horrible.

Overall, I didn't hate reignited 3. But I don't think I liked any big changes aside from Agent 9 and Sgt Byrd. They control so much better, especially Agent 9. The graphics update is nice and but the new VA just seems a bit dull.

Was the fight with the Fire Dragons in Spyro 3 always terrible because it was gruelling in the reignited version. I blame what they did to the super flame, I swear it is smaller and harder to hit with.

It's finished and in the cabinet at work! It looks so bright and shiny in the photos, it's weird. It's much nicer in person, a bit more muted and matte! #paintingminiatures #miniaturepainting #babayaga

Storm bolters becoming Strength 5 is one of those things I just assumed happened at some point after I quit. Like, when I heard I just thought "oh, kinda odd it took this long"

I just heard Space Marines are going up to Toughness 5 on top of the 2 Wounds they got from previous editions. I can't imagine myself playing 40k. Sorry, I just can't. If I ever played again, it'd definitely be 3rd or 4th. There's just so many reasons not to keep up with this game.

Same. I ran a Basic Fantasy game last weekend. Two PCs got knocked to zero. The only one left was the 1HP level 1 mage with no spells. They somehow pulled off a hit with the sling and did just the right amount of damage.

I have a plan to run an integrated wargame/rpg over the weekend. The results of the rpg determine what the rpg adventure looks like. I have a simple map, a full outline of scenarios for oathmark, including my own one and some basic plot hooks for encounters and dungeons.
