Come and work with us (the Kokkonuts) as a postdoc! Our research within (theory-evo-eco) is broad; let's say it's implicitly defined by the journal club papers we read. Which is why the application process includes a JC-related task, I hope it'll be a fun one for you! www.evoldir.net/brian/evoldi...

Humans shape #biodiversity on Earth in a myriad ways, but in many data-driven analyses of biodiversity, the human impact is largely absent. Charles Davis and colleagues propose ethnobiodiversity informatics to include human systems & better model biodiversity patterns www.cell.com/current-biol...

Integrating humans into biodiversity science through ethnobiodiversity informatics
Charles Davis and colleagues propose ethnobiodiversity informatics as an expansion of biodiversity informatics to represent human systems as explicit data layers, thus modeling more realistically the ...

Can benefits echo across generations? In C. elegans, starvation boosts offspring fitness but carries hidden costs for great-grand offspring, revealing evolutionary trade-offs across generations. doi.org/10.1093/evle... @alexeimaklakov.bsky.social

Evolutionary trade-offs between intergenerational and transgenerational fitness effects
Abstract. Intergenerational and transgenerational fitness effects can shape evolutionary processes. Theoretically, however, intergenerational and transgene

If we want to conserve evolutionary history, we need to think about this: change the phylogenetic methods, and you change the conservation outcomes. New paper led by honours student Mina Kearns, with @alexskeels.bsky.social & @keaghanjames.bsky.social onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

While I’m hoping BlueSky can be a place to talk about my research, it does seem like there’s a thriving photography community here. Why not share a few shots. These are some flowers I photographed around Hobart. Feel free to say what species they are, I’ve no idea #photography

I cannot believe our work is finally out there and in @journal-evo.bsky.social ! This was an enormous group effort! We provide an updated estimate of the number of buzz pollinated angiosperm species, genera, and families, look at consequences for diversification, number of transitions, and more!
Circular phylogeny showing the branching pattern of 30k plant species with lineages with poricidal and non poricidal taxa indicated. A small subset of poricidal taxa are illustrated around the phylogeny.
