Now why would you, I say why would you go and do a thing like that for? Salad cream goes on your eggs, not ketchup. Maybe some mustard too…Say are you even listening to me boy? Pay attention, I say pay attention when I’m talking, this ain’t no time for fooling around.

Strange film, but with a certain charm. Not terribly coherent, but I assume problems with the director dying on set was a bit of a factor! Not sure I'd read Bram Stoker's 'Jewel of the Seven Stars' off the back of it. Still, it's a nice looking film and is does have Valerie Leon of course..

Signed up for a free 7 day trial of Studio Canal, so off we go with a whole week of free classic horror films! Also means I can work through some of the films referenced in Dr Valentine. Blood From the Mummy’s Tomb up first!

Not been a good week for the industry on this topic, what with this and what I heard about certain big name authors.

Same. I found avenues in noir and classic crime as well as gothic and new weird. I've also spread out to fiction from across the world which has rejuvenated a lot of my reading.

This happened to me. I read very little fantasy now (although the urge pops up on occasion) and I've moved into new genres I barely looked at before.

I’m sure distractions will get the better of me, but I’m beginning to plan a new session of roleplaying.

Anyone seen Blood From the Mummy’s Tomb? It gets a glowing mention in Dr Valentine as one of the best Mummy films after the first Hammer one.

Knackered from housework today. Once I finish off Dr Valentine later, next up is The Beast of Gévaudan by Élie Berthet, newly translated by Gerald Briggs in 2021 An historical fiction novel written in French in 1858, this is a romanticized version of true events from the 1760s. ⏳📚💙 #Booksky

Really enjoying Luigi’s Mansion 2. The mission structure isn’t as bad as I’d expected and does give some replay value. I hope for a fourth game next year. Tomorrow is Castlevania though. Very excited for that!

People often speak of a "Golden Age of Horror", but what is less talked about is this becoming a Golden Age for translated and World fiction as well. A thanks to @rachelcordasco.bsky.social and @gnofhorror.com for putting me onto this one.

My second Korean read is a near-perfect cosmic horror. Inspired by Lovecraft’s Call of Cthulhu, Shadow Over Innsmouth and others; this is a beautifully written and atmospheric novella of otherworldly horror, grief, isolation, pandemic fears and eventually paranoia. #Booksky 🩸📚💙 #SFinTranslation
