With Mr. Donut raising prices I'm surprised everyone isn't celebrating the beauty of Jack in the Donuts. This is a toffee and Biscotti tea old fashioned that's just 250 yen. (Of course the best donuts in Japan are Happy Donut in Mobara but there's a line out the door and it's a 2 hour drive for me)

In the plans to pass the diet this year is a 10-20x increase in visa fees in Japan. Renewal/status change to be 70000 yen. Permanent residence application to be 200000-300000 yen. Not so impactful for me personally but passing it along in case anyone with the capacity to apply soon can do so.

Watching the election results come in and fears after the upper house results last year are largely gone. Sansei should land only 1-3% of seats. LDP landslide isn't "good" but if I had to decide to live under Trump-style conservatism or Reagan-style conservatism these days it's not a hard choice.

At Bikkuri Donkey in Tsukuba. A South Asian family of 3 just walked on the bill. The workers are wondering what to do. Since 1999 it's the first time I've seen it happen in Japan. Enjoying some Japanese history. Japan had hundreds of Sante Ole fast food outlets about 30 years ago as the most widespread domestic burger shop. After the penultimate shop closed in 2024, this is the last remaining one in a rundown shopping center out in the sticks in Chiba. (It's not very good)
