What an honor celebrating Rick Rizzs at his retirement lunch. For 40+ years he energized Seattle baseball w/ storytelling and lines like “Goodbye Baseball” and “Holy smokes, how about that?” His Toys for Kids and Rick’s Locker work sealed his legacy. We’ll miss him.

Good governance isn't flashy. But it's everything. King County just established an Inspector General to investigate fraud, oversee contracts, and ensure accountability. Today, we're taking another step to ensure county dollars go to the programs and services people actually need and depend on.
An image of the King County Courthouse, along with a statement from Councilmember Balducci following the passage of legislation instituting an Inspector General function at King County that says, “As elected officials, it is our duty to steward public funds responsibly and earn and keep public trust. A key part of that is having concrete systems in place that make it clear who is accountable for reviewing and maintaining rigorous contracting standards. That’s why I authored the amendment to require that our Auditor’s work plan include a full review of all DCHS contracts. Today, I’m glad we’re taking another step by instituting an Inspector General function within King County. All of these steps will help us as King County Councilmembers to remain committed to continued oversight so that we can earn the trust of the public through responsible governance.”

Likely for some - interestingly PSRC once did a study that found costs of parking are a much bigger driver of choice to use transit. Probably for a similar reason that people hate car tabs more than gas tax or income tax more than sales tax — noticeably higher individual payment points.

A ghost bus is a trip that never leaves the base. Riders are left standing in the rain or the dark, wondering where their bus went. This new reporting asks Metro to be more transparent, improve real‑time rider info, and use cancellation data to guide future service planning. 2/4
