@weatherpulse.com has added internatioanl #radar support for GR products. Finally got around to adding it to my install. I could sit here and watch ships (with crazy wicked sidelobing) in the Skagerrak all day (because it seems rain continues to avoid the FTG radar & my house). #radarnerd

We did it! 24.82 mi/39.94 km Day 2. 52 mi/83.62 km total. 6.3 km over the last bridge w/ views that were amazing. Def would do Onomichi-Imabari vs other way & e-assist bike again due to more terrain & slope of 3-5% in spots. Thanks #Japan for making this possible!! #shimanamikaido #cycling

Day 1 of the Shimanami Kaido done. 27.27 mi/40km down, bit more than halfway. Totally worth it if you are a cycleist & in Japan. Great views along the entire route, staying at Wakka w/ a Hiroshima Lemon Ale as a reward. 7pm, & it’s off to bed, 1 more day of cycling! #japan #shimanamikaido #cycling

Then there is this I got with it. This IS Christmas soda. Paired so well with the mild spicy of the curry & all ingredients balanced so well. Have spent the rest of the evening searching to see if I can buy this back home; I may pay shipping & (cough) tariffs if I have to, it’s that good! #avycola

You know Japanese curry will be great when there is a massive pot on stove that looks like it’s been there for generations. Cook takes ladle of curry out of said pot into smaller one, dilutes it w/ water, then simmers it some more. Add tonkatsu pork & <chefs kiss>. Nasu Oyaji カレー食堂 茄子おやじ 花レ, Kyoto

Kauai 88D is in a very exposed location for a tropical system coming in from the south to southwest. This is looking NE from offshore from 4 years ago. Not to mention any comms or power issues for the site as well. Such a beautiful island and one of our fav Hawaiian locations to visit 😢

Our HOA is replacing sections of lawn w/ broken irrigation to xeriscape. Westy came in, said no b/c your covenant doesn’t allow it. HOA board said you’re in violation of state law. City said “Oops, our bad. Here is what we’re allowing you to plant for xeriscaping” keeping control over plans 🤬🙄

Always interesting forecasting for a family member travelling overseas. They sent Apple WX app for the 9th Asking if it’s true. 🤷🏻‍♂️ ! Temp spread likely due to precipitation uncertainty as old tropical system meanders around Japan. (Yes, my EC code is broken for control member; working on it)…

We’re still kicking around; it’s harder for me to see how prevalent these misclassifications are not being at a WFO anymore. Still good to know they are happening so the LWG can pass along to NWS offices to double/triple check against ALL sources on “unusual” locations…

Interesting watching #ElkFire nr Lake City & how it’s moving in terrain w/ light winds/different fuel densities. Vegetation thins out on slopes of valley wall; heavier timber loads NW of city could produce spotting from embers. Love going fishing at Lake San Christobal & Alpine Loop is a Jeep to-do
Watch Duty map showing the Elk Fire making a run to the southwest. Luckily the slopes around the city don’t have much vegetation limiting the potential a little bit for the fire to get into the city itself. Just Will have to watch for spotting/flying embers into the city.Satellite view of the terrain and vegetation around Lake City, CO

Just to repeat what everyone else east of the Front Range in Colorado is saying; it was hot today. 105°F felt every bit as hot as back in TX. The 64° this morning was ok except for ozone and particulates trapped near the ground. #cowx
105° high at my casa is hot, just like everyone else in and around Denver is saying…

True; COVID probably pushed it to forefront (that & cost of “pretty” designer HEPA filters). 2020 was first I had heard of them. I’m glad I did; wish I had known earlier to fight WTX dust when I was out there. Regardless, run mine 24/7 to keep a MERV 13 HVAC filter from killing the blower motor.

Reminder for those dealing with #wildfire #smoke; these things work & are a fraction of cost of a consumer level HEPA product. Yeah, it looks like MacGyver built it but it works; been running one (w/ 6-mo filter changes), keeps PM2.5 & PM10 < 1 ug/m^3! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corsi%E...

The cycle continues; droughts end in floods. Family across Hill Country & several have said they have never seen it rain so hard with so little lightning. Tipping gauges struggle to keep up; 1 shows around 5” in 7 days while different gauge 1 mi W has almost 10” near one set of family #txwx #flood
Lower Colorado River Authority rain map showing totals from 2 to 17 inches across their forecast domain. Likely underestimates because tipping rain gauges struggle to keep up in heavy rainfall.Mason, TX airport Remote Automated Weather Station showing almost 10 inches of accumulation over the past7 days; around 6 inches greater than the closest LCRA gaugeLlano (not pronounced yawn-oh but Lan-oh with a hard L) river near Mason, place where I spent many a summer swimming and fishing. Hydrograph showing the flashy nature of the river and a peak into minor flood stage. Lower than many other rivers in the area but still significant.

When you ask for tasters & the server comes back with “The bartender pours ‘heavy’” 😳. This after trying a flight ranging from 4 to 9% ABV! Red Rock Brewery in SLC has some good brews, definitely a nice way to wrap up TDY in support of World Cup operations by “The Bureau”!

It’s never good when you see pyrocumulus look this way above the #AspenAcresFire. Indicative of intense heat and locally driven meteorological conditions being driven by the fire itself. #cowx

Google is gonna get someone stuck or killed. With 550 closed N of Ouray, it now says Imogene Pass (pucker factor 10 at spots even in my Rubicon) is quickest way to get to Telluride vs 550-62-145 route. 17 is open for limited traffic and gets folks around the closure so 😬 #cowx #goldmountainfire
Google Maps is now routing traffic from Ouray to Telluride across Imogene Pass, a difficult trail even for base 4x4s (and not recommended for most AWD vehicles)! That will not end well…

Trying to keep things separate is hard when you work for the NWS, family are ranchers in Texas a county away from a confirmed NWS case. And you start searching for information on NWS. Which results this time; National Weather Service or New World Screwworm? The Venn diagram doesn’t overlap…

Da Nang is about 24 km NW & has localized terrain around their site. Regardless, another hot one in store; already 97°F/36°C which is close to where dry adiabatic mixing on sounding gets us. ECMWF EPS gets to 102°F/39°C for the closest grid point. Humidity doesn’t help either; feels like 110° now 🥵
