The pain you need to go through now to make something much easier for yourself in the future. "Its a convenience sore now, but it will help us a lot later if we set it up this way now."

I like that "meant to be understood" call out. I always hated when the "[speaking foreign language]" caption appeared and covered existing subtitles.

I played through Psychonauts again because I realized I never actually played the PS4 version with trophy support. Every time I play this game I feel like I randomly stumble upon some interaction that I'd never seen before. I'm thinking maybe Brutal Legend next for Rocktober?

I know how people listen to music. Special devices called "speakers" vibrate the air around them producing patterns of motion in the air called "sound waves". Those sound waves propagate to the person's ear drum which then sends a signal to the brain that is interpreted as "music".

You are right to push back on this. I was incorrect in that I didn't use any salt, a popular seasoning. I have added 60% of the LD50 amount to give proper flavoring while remaining in safe bounds.

This is exactly the plan, they are relying on the fact that it is harder to build than destroy and the hope that Democrats are too cowardly to rebuild aggressively.

Sure Sony themselves might try to do this, but we weren't buying the PS6 anyway thanks to this "no physical games" crap... so let them make stuff more difficult for everyone else while they are at it.

Valve wants to add a contactless payment system to the next Steamdeck? Now they have to factor in "negotiation with Sony lawyers" into the budget and may decide it isn't worth it.

Everyone is getting on Sony for this obviously anti-consumer patent, but it is actually a really good thing they filed for this. Just think, if Sony owns this idea then it will be more expensive and more difficult for other companies to do something like this.

In grad school I had an advisor/collaborator who refused to use gmail because he thought Google would steal his ideas and that his research in cryptography would lead him to having problems traveling to Russia if those emails got leaked. Oh, how he must be laughing right now.

Sure, but your entire chain of reasoning relies on a lot of humans carrying out the commands they get from the AI a very high percentage of the time. These are not just humans rubber stamping code, these would need to be seriously strenuous tasks.

Your argument relies on a single super intelligence that does all of these things to become despotic. I am saying that history tells us we will end up with many different varieties from many different sources, not a single king AI.

The history of software engineering is increasingly distributed specialists in terms of the engineers that we are (frontend, backend, data science, security), the tools we use (different languages, different measures) and the things we create (microservice architecture).

KBlaney @kblaney.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
There's a lot of other problems that all boil down to an assumption of standardization (the history of software engineering is rife with examples of diverging use cases, not converging), but the reality of LLMs being unable to physically do much without human cooperation is a huge flaw.
110
KBlaney @kblaney.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Here's a big one via practical example. Ask your favorite LLM to refute this. Either you accept the reasoning or you reject it. If you reject it, then you've shown that people will reject ideas from AI that they disagree with. Radical human cooperation with AI decisions is a fundamental pillar.

Blaming her maid? I already dislike this soulless creature who is so utterly dependent on the life blood of others but is, at once, deeply resentful of them because she believes herself a higher form of life. Also she's a vampire.

Is it because of the LGBTQ+ tag? The LGBTQ+ population, of course, has been the actual target of an awful lot of moral panics and the recent obsession with Steam and itch (with attacks via payment processor) is no exception.

OpenAI stole the results (and not just in a typical "GenAI is a plagiarism machine" way), so there is an actual human behind the big titty furry in this case (and not just for the typical reasons someone is behind a big titty furry).

The trick is to realize that this ONLY works BECAUSE of those processes and that those processes really don't exist outside of the very narrow scope of software engineering. Just because it is good at accelerating code delivery, that doesn't mean it does anything else worth a damn.
160
KBlaney @kblaney.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
I mean, that's not entirely true. GenAI gets used a lot at most tech companies these days. The big difference is very specific guardrails and a ton of existing software delivery practice that very quickly gutters the slop into the garbage.
