Okay. And maybe this LED sign.

After the fiasco of 17 moving boxes filled with merch from when I worked at Blizzard, I’ve been trying chill the F out. That said, I’m very fond of Clive that I paid full price for.

Bluesky CEO Jay Graber is the Sun Summoner. Mush and Zuck are both Darklings. May they be similarly defeated.

Had a beach day at work. So relaxing. This was the photo I was taking when my coworker took the photo of me.

Scenes from today in the workshop. Finally back to glue-up phase. Got a branding iron holder for the drill press. Such a great idea.

What a time capsule. It probably also has an alarm that goes off at 2:30am.

Is it weird that I sung that to “Copacabana”?

Workbenchcon will be the first woodworking convention I’m attending in almost 20 years. I barely knew what I was doing back then. A little more skilled and confident now. Looking forward to learning and meeting the folks that inspire me.

Tried them for the first time a few weeks ago. Excellent tacos!

kbartlez @kbartlez.bsky.social · 19/01/2025

I recently acquired an old Craftsman No 78 Rebate Plane. Blade was in bad shape—wasn’t square, chipped on one end and severely tapered on the other. Ended up grinding away 1/16 in. of material w a belt sander/disc. Then I noticed the backside wasn’t even flat. After 6 hours of this, finally usable.

Progress comes in slow, imperceptible increments. I often wonder if I’m getting any better at woodworking. And then I come back to building something I’ve made many times in the past. And I can tell that this is the best cutting board I’ve made.

I had to embiggen my shooting board to accommodate 18 inch long stock because, for the life of me, I’m still not at a skill level where I can plane freehand and maintain a 90° edge.

A little more sanding and applying of finish, and my album stands are done.

Hey, looks like you’re up.

Latest satisfying thing to do when I get a call from an unidentified number: Pick up but stay silent. If the other end is also, then it’s voice-activated automation. Hang up. Block the number. They’ll keep coming, but at least not anymore from these numbers.

kbartlez @kbartlez.bsky.social · 06/12/2024

Whoa. This sounds like the beginning of an exciting new chapter for you guys.

kbartlez @kbartlez.bsky.social · 06/12/2024

@malik.newmeta.gg I’m finally making my way back to Atlanta in Feb and you’re not there anymore. 😢

Welcome to the new and true Tower.

I avoided getting another flat traversing these tracks, only to get rained on my way home.

Haha. I’ve joked that I pronounce Bluesky as in “brewski”. And that’s how Siri just said it.

Didn’t feel like it, but I made some progress today. I made another version of the box joint jig to allow for ¼ inch joints, which allowed me to put together the sides of a box I’m making with possibly the cleanest finger joints I’ve done yet.

A long process. Spent a day making Chestnut Shibukawani (stewed with inner skin). Made Meringues. Made chestnut paste. And came together tonight as a Mont Blanc.

After not being very impressed by the offerings earlier this year (last year?), I revisited the TooGooToGo app. Now places like Eataly and Honey’s Kettle are participating. I picked up this bag of Sidecar Donuts for $7!

It’s pretty masterful onboarding for newcomers, that’s for sure. Beats the “we’ll add all your FB/IG contacts all at once option” Threads had at the start.

A whiteboard from our Jan 2023 team retreat where I wrote down our goals, and the top one was “10k user signups.” We’re growing by 10k users every 10-15 minutes right now.

Yeah. I don’t thing they’re are official. The News one explicitly says they aren’t in their bio—which, in and of itself, is rather refreshing to see.

When I did the Ride the Coast Century a couple weeks ago, I was wearing this Bungie/Destiny jersey. A @dadsofdestiny.bsky.social gent gave me compliments. I told him they were the OG! Should’ve at least asked for a gamer tag. 😅

@clanferal.bsky.social we need to get Bungie and Bungie help on here.

I’m doing what I did in the early days of Threads all over again. Hitting likes and engaging wherever I can to encourage people to keep posting and stay.

I will say that now that I’m checking in here more often, my feed feels more like it should. The vibes in Threads is great for me, but the feed there, out of order, with odd suggestions, always felt off.
