This picture of Jedi and a tiny female zebra jumping spider is one of my recent favourites. The spider did a little threat display - they stand tall and put their abdomen up - when Jedi moved, then settled and tried to hide under her leg.

Thanks. Wasn’t anything terribly controversial but I think it’s important people understand that it’s not the fault of those people coming in with lower acuity issues that the emergency department is full.

It’s hot. Our heat pump (which does the A/C) is still pooched despite a second board being replaced. While complaining of being hot and sticky, we had to decide what to do with a bunch of lemons. Briefly considered pie, curd, bars. Nah. I put the kids to work juicing. Perfect lemonade.

The “tradwife” label as it is used generally on social media is heavily tied in with paternalistic traditions, typically religious, which define a woman’s value by her adherence to ‘traditional’ roles and behaviour expectations.

Shocking, eh? 🙃 I once had someone make some snide comment about how a man must be paying for it all - alluding to child support. And I laughed my ass off because I’ve never received a dime from my ex-husband, who is in jail, and I was the primary financial contributor for most of the marriage.

And I also still have to deal with him. People don’t realise that there is no crime severe enough that a DV victim will not be made to continue interacting with their abuser if they have children. People think women make up abuse to ‘take kids away’ but that’s a myth. It doesn’t work that way.

When I first went to the police, they told me that there was “presumed consent” in a marriage and they would not charge him. That was not true, of course but I didn’t know that at the time. It did teach me not to ask police for help though.

It is entirely offender-centric & the safety of women seems to matter very little. It feels like marital sexual assault is still treated by judges as no big deal, and as the victim you’re blamed for not leaving them when they hurt you but then punished when you do.

Found out my rapist - who is a repeat sex offender - is scheduled to be released from jail the day after my birthday and the crown appeal of his sentence (they appealed it as ‘demonstrably unfit’ as it is only around half of what it should be) may not be decided or even heard before he’s let out.
