True in the sense that it is a valid lens to look at the work with, but it's a useful one because the work itself supports the hypothesis. I can look at it and be like it and criticize how successfully it does or doesn't pull the whole look together, regardless of what happened behind closed doors.

And I think this goes back to the whole thing about media analysis not being a puzzle. It is a factual mystery that we don't know if Miyamoto said "Make that shit look like Thunderbolt Fantasy", but when someone brought it up, a lot of people SAW IT, including myself, which makes it "true".
