I think this basically captures what people are talking about when they mean the Sun belt. Obviously some of these are outliers, but like if you look at the big blobs, you get the southeast, the Texas triangle cities, AZ/NV/CO/UT, and SD/the inland empire

Colorado has a fundamentally different urban form, but yeah Vermont is the model here Colorado, like all Western states, has almost everyone living in a city, suburb, or town, and then has large areas that are truly empty WV and VT both have people actually living out in the middle of nowhere
