Went back and chaptered my last n-thousands words. Up to 16 chapters! I can smell the ending is nigh (smells like lots of blood). More conversations between characters I didn't count on ever meeting. Doing things I never expected them to do. 💙📚 #prideandprejudice

You can't convince me that any book titled "The <a> of <x> and <y>" isn't derivative af.

I've seen a pattern over and over. It runs: "I want x specific thing and I won't enjoy anything else!" Shortly followed by: "Why am I in a slump and not enjoying my entertainments?!?" Zero connecting a with b.

I've had boy cats and girl cats. One orange boy expressed affection by head-butting you unexpectedly, preferably while you were napping. Our girls now fight over the lap and one likes to side-cat me while I work and gives me an annoyed meow when I stand up.

One of my favorite sf stories has a character who is a self-aware AI. Her name is Solace and she saved the world. GenAI ain't it.

Thank goodness. My carpal tunnel might ache for these kids (mine went away when I started using my laptop for note-taking), but my brain rejoices for them.

It seems to have always been that some of them (ex. Lord Byron) had endless permission to be messy af. Meanwhile Jane Austen was scribbling away on little pieces of paper so the servants and visitors didn't suspect the unladylike thing she was up to.

Dragonfruit is highly meh. Much more exciting to encounter in Fruit Ninjas. Soursop is delightful. The El Salvadoran place we love has soursop agua fresca.

I guess there's no reason for me to pretend that women don't need to inflict violence on men sometimes, given that I posted a story where Lizzy kicks Darcy in the balls to expedite their HEA.

Damnit, the big guys get everything handed to them, even the numbers on their stuff that gets pirated. I have no idea how many people have downloaded my books off pirate sites, and it haunts me.

Treebeard's wife comes trudging out of the east. As he stands dumbfounded, she asks, "Did you plant even one apple tree when I was gone?" Lengthy silence prevails, and she eventually returns east.

Knowing that there are AIs running around with your prose as part of their training data is like learning that mad scientists stole your DNA and used it to create a bunch of babies that are now feral kids running around your city.

The self-pub author forums are full of new writers asking, "How do I keep them from stealing my work?" The old hands sadly shake their heads and tell them, "You don't."

There's a special pain that a month after losing their suit to the Author's Guild and paying a multi-million settlement, Meta stole one of my novels then found a more agreeable judge for that suit.

There's a classic story in one of the Sword & Sorceress anthologies, "The Rape Squad." A bunch of women go out at night. Fighters, plus a woman who agreed to play bait. They rack up quite a body count. There's a Leslie Fish song about it, "Susan B."

As intellectual exercises go, reading all the Wikipedia entries for the members of the British Privy Council during the Regency to decide how they'd feel about vampirism is a helluva one. 💙📚

Jane Austen famously would dash out of the room while folks were visiting, giggling, to take notes. Mr. Collins had real-world counterparts.

It is breathtaking how lightly people will tell you to switch genres. Being in historical romance right now ensures an endless drumbeat of, "Shouldn't you be writing romantasy?" One of these days I'm going to respond, "Sorry, my trope budget won't cover that."
