Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 22hWe live in the middle of the bush, so tūī, are the main suspects, but there are a number of species out there and I know others can do it too. And yes, total waste of their natural talents! 010
Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 23hThe caution labels were never a joke. They were a health and safety response to a frequently reported event 😅 110
Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 10/10/2026Thank you! I hope so, I'm putting a lot of effort into all this! 😅 010

Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 10/10/2026Got out the giant office chair for my desk/computer setup because the dining chair I've been using for years has been very painful lately. Incredible improvement on pain scale for new chair. Incredibly impractical on physical size and shape though. 030
Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 09/10/2026I think perhaps one of the local birds has learned to imitate the squeaking of our car's breaks 😅 either that or our squeaking breaks sound exactly like a local bird's call. 230

Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 09/10/2026That would have made things fun haha. But it is good we're both keeping them busy. 110
Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 09/10/2026A few, yes. That's about a week. Some overlap. Something is driving me towards connection with people on this one. I live a fairly isolated life, so a short sprint with people I adore is almost like a reverse-charge now? 010
Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 09/10/2026Probably the same one actually. I'm going to Hamilton because I can't do it up here. And yes, there's not a single thing on that list I'm not excited about. 110

Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 09/10/2026So far my holiday itinerary includes: - gardening with kids - op shopping with my bff - a plasma donation - collecting a family story - any jobs my aunt has lined up for me in her garden. - dinner with my cousin, and meeting her kids - my first trip to Ikea with my sister in law and niece 190

Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 09/10/2026Yep. Every time I head away, apparently I need to check what the speed limit is! Kawakawa is the one I use most. It has a speed camera. 80km is comfortable. But if you let them do 100, people want to do 100. 050
Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 09/10/2026Our Carrfields agent makes that so easy. But you can just choose a life stage to specialise in. My BFF has access to free supplementary feed so they take them as calves and raise them to weaners. Tidy little operation for them. If they're smaller, they have less land impact and you can hold more. 110
Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 09/10/2026Me too. The new T. Kingfisher (Daggerbound) was good and I actually finished it though. It's a sequel of sorts so now I'm 30% through Clockwork Boys. 110
Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 09/10/2026Found one in a pot last week and I'm not sure who got the bigger fright. I let her keep her pot and used another one. She was welcome to it, but my hair would be a whole other story!! 020
Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 09/10/2026The previous Labour Govt dropped a bunch of speed limits. The NACT Govt reversed the changes, did two rounds of consultation, and ended up reinstating the original Labour govt changes. Great use of resources. Glad we're not wasting time or money on idealogical farts. #nzpol 610427
Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 09/10/2026You'll need that set up in advance if you're using a transporter. Ideally they are tagged at the oroginal farm and transfer to you is registered at the time. 030
Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 09/10/2026Absolutely you can. But how many cows are you going to eat? It's cruel to keep less than 3 of a herd animal. The current govt has just changed rules in this area to make it easier to feed others though. That's new, but possibly worth looking into too. 110
Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 08/10/2026Young ones do need some intensive management. We avoid them because we don't have a barn. But cattle generally are a very good way to make cash to fund restoration/rates if you can ride the waves of the market, and you have the grass for them. Especially if you are considerate of your land's limits. 010
Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 08/10/2026It could be different where you are, but last I checked, 6-9 m.o were ~$1,000 each up here, and apparently it's higher in the Waikato. I did a full run down on what we got from Silver Fern earlier this year. Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 08/10/2026The way I see it, you ring a rural vet and find out the answer to the second question (and the cost), and you take advantage of the situation if you have the food to turn that beef into money for property maintenance. One steer can buy a lot of native trees, or some fence, 50m of driveway... 120
Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 08/10/2026Eat more, take longer to reach sale weight, moody, need steer-i-fying. Better to take what the market will give now, and save the feed to put the girls through faster? 110
Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 08/10/2026Cannot answer the second question because we always get heifers, but the predicted summer droughts seem to have spooked a few farmers into being rational about stock numbers, and once you have the blood lines you need, the rest aren't worth the risk? 230
Kat 👩🌾 @kats-garden.nz · 08/10/2026Also fun: going to the craft shop and getting to buy lots of colourful craft supplies you're actually gonna use 😂 010
