Coming to a spinalcms.com team near you soon: invite a hosted or BYOK #LLM / #ai agent member. We are testing this internally and it is great way to leave the tedious and repetitious task to do it for me.

The pitch for single page apps was always “it’s faster after the first load”. Google’s Core Web Vitals, used in search ranking, now measure soft navigations. It’s true: LCP drops by about a third. But, I don't think SPAs are ever really worth all the compromises and extra code.
Chart: LCP for 11 single page apps, today vs with soft navigations counted. Most drop sharply, e.g. Netlify 4.72s to 2.36s, Bluesky 4.25s to 2.14s, Airbnb 2.28s to 1.04s. ASOS gets slightly slower. Chrome UX Report, 14 Sep to 11 Oct 2026.

One the coolest (new) features from spinalcms.com is templates ✨ It give you a ready-made starting point for new content. Each collection has a default template that pre-fills body (and frontmatter) of every new resource. Set a default for every new resource or select one by command/right click.

Same build process. Starlight reads the same folder it always did. Your content in Git stayed the source of truth. Choose the API route only when the content already lives in a database other teams query. spinalcms.com/blog/a-cms-f...

A CMS for Astro Starlight: API vs Git-based
Starlight keeps your docs as Markdown in the repository. Adding a CMS means choosing where that content lives. Here is what the API route costs compared with a git-based one.

Git-based route: connect your repo. It reads the docs folder, infers the fields and commits your edits to Git. Astro builds the same files as before. Three steps, no upkeep.

API route: build a content model, import the existing pages, manage API tokens, remap Starlight's frontmatter fields, move images to a CDN, add rebuild webhooks. Ten steps, then upkeep.

Non-Git teammates can't edit your @astro.build Starlight docs. Add a CMS so they can. You have two choices: an API (headless) CMS, or a git-based one. One takes ten steps. The other takes three. 🤔

Zero-click does not mean zero-website. Impressions climb while visits fall. Your site now works before anyone arrives. It feeds AI Overviews, ChatGPT answers, and Perplexity citations. I do not make the rules. 🤷 For your static site, that is not a threat. It is your existing workflow.

Fewer visits, same influence. You already built the home base. You already ship clean HTML. You can also hand the machines a tidy llms.txt for the price of a build step. Read the full piece: spinalcms.com/blog/your-st...

AI answers are bland by nature, so your weird and human voice wins. That voice lives on the site you fully own: the fonts, the words, the strange phrase that says “not a bot”.

The risk: an AI tool quotes an outdated version of you. On a static site, exactly one version exists. You fix the file, then rebuild. That build is what gets crawled tomorrow. No cache to expire. No draft that forgot to publish.

llms.txt is one Markdown file at your root. It tells AI tools what you are, in their terms. llms-full.txt inlines every page, so an AI tool reads your whole site in one fetch. On a static site generator, you build it from frontmatter you already write. About twenty lines. Minutes of work!

AI tools crawl your built HTML. A well-built Astro or Jekyll site ships clean, semantic HTML that you control. Structure is close to what an AI tool wants to read. Clean HTML is necessary but not enough. Add schema.org JSON-LD plus accurate titles and meta descriptions.
schema.org
Schema.org - Schema.org
Schema.org is a set of extensible schemas that enables webmasters to embed structured data on their web pages for use by search engines and other applications.

You already have a home base. Your content is a folder of Markdown in Git. That is one true source you own. Not a database row behind a login, nor a post on some platform. “Write once, build everywhere” is what zero-click now demands of everyone else.

SEO on a static SaaS site still works. But AI search changed where buyers start. 51% of B2B buyers now begin research in a chatbot more often than in Google. Ranking first no longer decides it. Getting cited inside the AI answer does.

SaaS SEO for static sites: what AI search changed
The old SEO rules still work on a static stack. But AI search changed where buyers start. Here is what that means for a static SaaS site.

Comparison pages are what AI answers cite. On a static generator they cost one template and a CSV. We ship about 75 of them.

Three cheap moves: ship JSON-LD from one partial, write headings as questions, and allow AI search bots in robots.txt while blocking training crawlers.

A static stack gives you speed, control, and build-time templates for free. Core Web Vitals pass by default. What you hand-roll instead: JSON-LD, headings, robots.txt.

Google's number one result fell from 28% to 19% click-through rate after AI Overviews shipped. Two goals now: rank in the classic results, and get quoted by the chatbot.

Google now lets readers pick your site as a "preferred source." Those readers then see your content flagged with a badge in Top Stories, AI Mode and AI Overviews. It is optional, and it asks something of you first. My thoughts.

My take? If you want the badge, start with the plain deeplink. It costs nothing and needs no script. Skip the JavaScript. The readers worth keeping come to your domain with or without a badge.

Also worth remembering: Google's pattern with publishers. - AMP asked for a parallel site format - Authorship asked for markup - Web Stories asked for a new page type. All three took real effort. All three were later retired. Just a pattern…

The reward? A “preferred“ badge inside AI surfaces that answer without a click. You would be promoting a Google feature to stand out inside the same system that reduced your traffic. 🤡

Google “recommends” loading its JS on every page of your site to render the button. But the preference only matters inside Google. The data flows to them. The work flows to you. 🫠

AI tools cite other websites when they describe your company. A study of 1,851 sources found brand-owned pages made up 2.8% of citations. You can fix that.

You cannot make ChatGPT like your brand. You can make every public source agree on the basics only, not like you. Full playbook: spinalcms.com/blog/citatio...

Citations are back. Where AI gets its facts about your brand?
AI answers describe your company from other websites, not yours. What the 2026 data shows and a five step playbook to keep those mentions accurate.

Katarzyna @katrzyna.spinalcms.com · 23/09/2026
4. Claim the missing profiles. Fix the wrong ones. Most platforms ask for six facts: name, address, phone, website, description, category. 5. Revisit key listings a few times a year. If you move or change prices, the old facts stay live in a dozen profiles.

Katarzyna @katrzyna.spinalcms.com · 23/09/2026
The playbook: 1. Search Google for your brand. Check the first five pages. Note every directory and review site. 2. Ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and AI Mode the questions your customers ask. Record every third-party source they cite. 3. Find the gaps with a citation tool.

Two kinds of mentions feed AI answers. Structured: Yelp, G2, Trustpilot, directories. Unstructured: Reddit, LinkedIn, news articles, product roundups. For SaaS, social and community sites took 45.7% of cited sources. Reddit appeared in every SaaS panel studied.

A study of 155.5 million AI citations found 80% go to a source a brand can influence. For local businesses, the top cited sites are MapQuest, TripAdvisor and Yelp. Wikipedia drew a sixth of MapQuest's citations.
