The Mauna Loa Observatory, home of the iconic Keeling Curve is at risk of shutdown. A new Conversation piece by CCRC's Alex Sen Gupta, @katrinmeissner.bsky.social & @timraupach.com explains why this matters for climate science. Don’t miss it. theconversation.com/mauna-loa-ob...

Mauna Loa Observatory captured the reality of climate change. The US plans to shut it down
Cutting data climate collection – as the Trump administration is now trying to do – is like breaking a thermometer to avoid knowing you’ve got a fever.

Key climate wild cards like tipping points and abrupt shifts are still missing from many models. A new piece by CCRC’s @katrinmeissner.bsky.social & Steven Sherwood explains why accounting for these uncertainties is essential. Read the full piece here: www.unsw.edu.au/newsroom/new...

Climate models are powerful, but do they miss some wild cards? 🌥️ Prof. @katrinmeissner.bsky.social and Steven Sherwood from CCRC explain that carbon feedbacks & tipping points could accelerate warming faster than we expect.🌍💨 More details: www.unsw.edu.au/newsroom/new... #ClimateScience #CarbonCycle

More than 1,300 Hajj pilgrims died this year when humidity and heat pushed past survivable limits. It’s just the start
Our bodies have hard limits as to how much heat and humidity we can tolerate. Lethal humid heat is a growing threat

Although ours was on modelling and process understanding not on gathering more paleodata (which is of course also extremely important and needed).

I submitted one on deep time hot climates and process understanding that would feed into future climate projections. All four Detailed Assessors ranked it first. The General Assessors did not, unfortunately 😢.
