But the residents are not allowed any input.

And it runs close to the McKell Wascana Conservation Park, where there is so much diverse wildlife. It’s a gem in our city. Important bird migration path and I’m worried, this may be the last year of normal bird migration what species will we lose? It’s so messed up.

So they knew more before anyone and didn’t disclose. Im not saying they have to tell everyday residents but what about council. I know now, City Admin is a huge problem with a lot of issues in our city. And around…

But also because across the world, these big companies know, small municipalities and their councils will roll over and do whatever they want. Let them come in build a monster and they see $$$.

Completely agree. They chose that RM because of its proximity to the City and its resources including the airport and having executives from out of province being convenience.

He needs to be asked about his transparency in all of this. What did he know and when? After all, that was one of his mandates when he was running for office, he pledged to be "accessible, transparent and accountable" as mayor. #yqrcc

Yes but why today? How about when he stood with Sask government, Bell Canada exs, Roy Orb in front of the site in that media show? He didn’t think then he might have a conflict?

And that is not a dumb question.

It’s actually in the construction phase so once they turn it on, it will be much worse. It is 24/7 -7 days a week of construction operation. Imagine if they used that same energy, will power and $$$ to solve houseless issues and mental health concerns in our communities.

I want to know which companies (names) will be using/renting the compute capacity at this site, and what will they be using it for? The named tenants online are U.S. compute resellers, and the public hasn't been told who their end customers are or what workloads they will run. #yqrcc

Because it’s preordained. They support it. They see $$$, just like Bezo drooling over the idea of Bell Canada coming here to open up a head office. Funny, it’s almost like the Bell Canada AI execs are saying things to ensure future approval and votes from City Councillors.

Lots of nothing answers. It’s going to be mitigated but we haven’t decided yet. It’s gonna be efficient but we can’t say how. We’re using subject matter experts, who? And again, certain councillors just rolling out the red carpet. Soft ball questions. No one is asking the hard questions.

Their half-ass truths are tiring. Ask him if he would build this next to his home, neighborhood, town? Would they build this next to their family farms? #yqrcc

They love to use words like “campus”. Totally messed up. There is a history and reason why they use this term.

The question to ask these two Bell Canada AI Fabric exes is What will be going on inside that building m? what is that building’s function and purpose inside? How will the Ai be used? Cause it ain’t for creating a business. #yqrcc

And we’re not just talking about AI chat bots that everyday people use for help with how to cook something or basic directions which we know our faulty too but these AI companies use them for drone warfare. How does that help people in Saskatchewan?

It’s already crammed into everything. No one asked for it. BUT this centre is scarier, one of the tech companies owns $10 billion of hardware that’s going into that 300 MW if they up and leave they’re gonna take that 10 billion investment with them so what exactly are we getting for this?

KatMarie @katmarie.bsky.social · 2h
These two companies are well documented online. Please go read for yourself. CoreWeave & Cerebras have ties to + their clients are the US Department of war and Don Jr. —it’s exhausting. The Bell executives are telling half truths. #yqrcc

Bell's "sovereign" AI data centre in the RM of Sherwood is already fully leased to two US companies, CoreWeave and Cerebras. 160 MW + 140 MW = all 300 MW, before it's even built. No Canadian AI company is named as a tenant. Who is this "sovereign" campus for? #yqr #Saskatchewan

These guys are telling us a fairytale. There is no Canadian AI companies that will be using the that AI Hyperscale Data Centre. #yqrcc

Oh and pigs were flying today. That’s what you really missed, cause Mayor Chad and Councillor Burton actually recused themselves from this.

You’re missing some like: “Closed loop" (water solves everything), Sovereign AI, Data centre used when they mean AI hyper-scale data centre, Jobs and investment(drooling from proponents), It's just a big server room. 😬

Remember when the US Senate hearings dragged Facebook CEOs and other tech CEOs into a hearing and they did not have the basic understanding of how social media worked to question them on important issues that affected kids dying bc no regulations? They kept calling it “the Facebook”.

KatMarie @katmarie.bsky.social · 3h
And this is not just Regina. It's what happens at local councils everywhere. Small governments, big tech, and not enough expertise in the room. Companies know it. It is obvious that cities need to hire AI strategists and they need cyber security experts. #SaskPoli

The response keeps coming back to "it's not our job." That isn't a plan, it's a brush-off. These are the people residents count on to hold the line. #yqrcc

They don't appear to understand the difference between a conventional data centre and an AI hyperscale campus. That's a gap in the very thing they're being asked to decide.

KatMarie @katmarie.bsky.social · 3h
Watching Regina city council on the AI data centre issue, one thing is painfully obvious: most councillors don't seem to have the expertise to weigh this. Not on AI, not on energy, not on data centres, not on environmental concerns. #yqrcc #skpoli

We don’t have regulations here in Sask.

KatMarie @katmarie.bsky.social · 3h
And the Bell AI Hyperscale Data Centre that Bell Canada is building here in the RM of Sherwood is pre-leased by two US tech companies, Cerebras & Coreweave. These two companies have clients like the US Dept of War. How does that benefit us? #yqrcc

KatMarie @katmarie.bsky.social · 3h
We are not talking about Data Centres. There is a distinction that he is missing here. These are AI hyper scale data centres and these things have only been around since 2024 and Saskatchewan has none. It leads me to ask: what does he get from this as an expert? What is his private business?

Bring your own power means fossil fuels. Look at Abilene, Texas where Elon Musk and how he is polluting the air with natural gas is burning. That’s what bring your own power means. Do your research people. #yqrcc

KatMarie @katmarie.bsky.social · 3h
Regina and the RM of Sherwood are being asked to approve something with almost no track record. New scale, new power demand, new cooling. Treating it as "just a data centre" misses all of that. This man is off his rocker. He discredits himself B/c he does not know what he’s talking about.

KatMarie @katmarie.bsky.social · 3h
Campuses this size barely existed before 2024. The first gigawatt-class AI sites are only coming online now. A decade ago "hyperscale" meant a fraction of this. These are not data centres people. Please learn the difference.

As someone with 20+ years in tech and I am a cybersecurity professional: AI hyperscale data centres are a new beast. They're not the data centres we've known. #yqr #skpoli

Same council, same issue, different treatment. The women who spoke against the data centre got grilled. The male engineer who followed was heard respectfully. Residents deserve the same courtesy no matter who they are or what degrees they hold. #yqr

Now up, Erwin Heuck, engineer. States he’s here to clear up some myth-busting regarding Data Centres and how important the Bell AI Data Centre opportunity will bring to our city. Fuest off, I need to clear something up. A conventional data centre and an AI data centre aren't the same thing. #yqrcc

It reminded me of Trump and Zelensky: invite someone into your house, then ambush them. Council wants more public input? Then treat the people who show up like they matter. #yqr #SaskPoli

You can question a resident without putting them in the prosecution box. They came into council's house to share an opinion. They deserve respect, whether or not you agree. It was disappointing to watch. #yqrcc
