The theater is still around today. And there’s a lot of documentation of what it looked like after the Italian company took it over. But that’s after the original company crashed out. Then the building was rented to a troupe that FILLED IT WITH WATER for a swim show. The Italians redid everything.

How did it end? Me realizing (after a few more treatises and accounts) the interior of the theater was likely wood and painted plaster walls. I’m doubtful the limestone would’ve been seen from inside the hall.

Fun times doing book research today. What kind of research? Archival? No... Educating myself about the type of limestone historically used for building projects in Paris. Even more specifically, what types of ancient mollusk shells were crushed in the stone and how reflective they were. Fun indeed!

For the record, my local Board of Elections has been excellent. But I need to track the ballot I requested--and I have every confidence my county Board sent it--but (of course) the state's site isn't working.

I’m just waiting for my ballot to arrive in my letterbox. And my building yet again is host to 2 bros delivering the mail who don’t know to use the key, by which they opened the wall of boxes, to close it after they’re done. So I wait. I check. I assume no random French neighbor will want my ballot

This is how folks engaging in the humanities handle interpretation of cultural artifacts, because even if we could know authorial intent, it's our experience of the thing that represents that matters. Assigning agency to the artifact is what allows for open and personal interpretation

Ten bucks for material worth less than a dollar and isn’t legal tender. The advert’s B-roll of the White House should show a cranes and a construction site.

You can’t win football matches like this. It’s just a game—one you’re paid £200k per week to play—but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to **work**. When it’s ok to be sloppy or phone it in: - folding bed sheets - making stew - packing your work bag When it’s not: - playing an elimination Cup game

I don’t mean this in an obviously, superficially positive way, though I definitely feel that easily for Stevens’s song. But in a: this needs to conveniently rhyme sort of way. And, while we can poke fun at Stevens, I do come around on the poetry’s (not effortless) beauty.

I recently translated a 19th-century rhymed French monologue—and I do not consider myself a poet. Capturing the meaning while sticking to a rhythm and rhyme scheme was hard. But—and I say this as someone who loves this song—I was re-reading Stevens’s track “Fourth of July,” and I felt like I got it

I’ve suffered through “Citadel” season 2, HBO’s new “Steal” this year… so my expectations were low when I found the next recommended thriller: The Undeclared War. But it is amazing.

I think a fun local spinoff of “You’re Dead To Me” would be: - a high-school teacher paired with a funny 5th grader - a middle-school teacher paired with a funny high schooler who didn’t take that history class or (maybe this would be too mean, though likely fair) didn’t pay attention

There’s a lot started and still not done… 👋 Zirkzee, maybe a loan? (save on wages) ✈️ Collyer, likely sell (+£3m) 🏠 Baleba, likely buy (-£70m) 👋 Bayindir, likely loan And then there’s a lot abandoned: - lost Fernandes to Spurs - lost Ederson to Atalanta - no Lewis Hall or Myles Lewis-Skelly 😢

Rewatching Ted Lasso season 3, in prep to watch 4. And the whole story arc about how Zava prefers West Ham over Richmond, a team that was just promoted again after relegation… because West Ham are so obviously strong, clearly the “safe” EPL club. It makes me sad… and the Hammers nearly lost today 😢

Not that it matters, but these are not all US Territories. - Marshall Islands have been independent 🇲🇭 for almost 50 years - the Federated States of Micronesia 🇫🇲 are also an independent sovereign country, and have been since the Cold War - Washington DC, where this guy lives, is not a US territory

I love Dolly Parton. I recommend everyone enjoy The Orville’s archaic mythology of the great Earth poet Dolly Parton. And yes, the muse/woman herself made an actual cameo during an important episode about gender identity during Topa’s story arc.

But the US is also celebrating its 250th birthday this year. And that’s not nothing. And compared to Croatia, Greece, younger post-Civil War democracies, the US is showing its age now, and not in a good way.

Kelly Christensen @katkel.bsky.social · 25/08/2026
France and the UK are old societies. Older than the US. And maybe age is to blame for an entrenched encrustation encompassing the core infrastructure of buildings, archives, etc., which is impenetrable for individuals outside a certain pipeline. The US is younger. It’s historically been different.

What attack? What high press? Not only is there never anyone on the end of a cross—not even with Šeško and Rashford up front—but even with the bulk of possession being held by our central defender, the defense is abysmal. 0 offense + 0 defense = United gloom

#4. Not technically a transfer, but Rashford began his career way back when as a number 9, and maybe our cover for Šeško is sitting right in front of us. Could Rashford be our hero (again)?

#3. Luke Shaw I just can’t, at this moment, before the window has closed, accept that United remain stuck with Shaw (when he’s available) and Dalot as wingbacks. There’s good change in progress. And neither of them are good enough to go all the way, so why not target those positions?

Is this transfer news thread an injury thread now? #3. Any pundit opining on the squad’s shape this year is not looking at reality, in my opinion, when they name Mount. He came off injured after 20 minutes today. I like Mount, but (sadly) you cannot build a team around him given his injury record.

#2. Another injury-related thought 🤕 Luke Shaw had a miracle season last year. But it’s folly to plan for that again. The Lewis Hall transfer rumors are good news because I hope it means United know they need to replace Shaw. Whereas I think they should backup Šeško, I think they should sell Shaw.

Kelly Christensen @katkel.bsky.social · 02/08/2026
#1. If Šeško is going to be injured this frequently, then he can’t be our only first-choice striker. And that’d mean we’d often have no striker for games in any of the competitions. Zirkzee’s barely a backup, let alone a second starting striker for Europe, cups, etc. Is Šeško’s fitness a problem?

It’s really hard to pick who will win today’s stage. Pogacar lost last year, so maybe he’ll want this today. I think Carapaz is exhausted after this last week, otherwise I’d give the “most aggressive” rider a second look 🇪🇨 💪
