Our "Hitchhiker's Guide to Physical And Cognitive Effort" is now published in Sports Medicine🎉 Interested in the utility of effort definitions and proxies across domains, check the link ⬇️ link.springer.com/article/10.1... Huge Kudos to @wanjawolff.bsky.social & @israelhalperin.bsky.social 🙏

A Hitchhiker’s Guide to Physical and Cognitive Effort - Sports Medicine
Effort is integral to the regulation of behavior. It can be central for achieving goals in a range of activities, including sports, exercise, learning, and work. For centuries, researchers have tried ...

📣Preprint: More effort, more variability. We formally tested underlying assumptions of effort-performance coupling. ↪️Performance increases non-linearly & becomes more variable at higher effort levels. 📖@ osf.io/preprints/ps... w/ @katjarewitz.bsky.social, @SilasWagner & @wanjawolff.bsky.social

I really enjoyed presenting preliminary findings from our study on the effects of concurrent physical effort on explore-exploit behavior at this year's asp conference in Heidelberg 🚴🏀 Already looking forward to next year 🙃

Physical activity & #exercise require #time & #effort These costs are relatively well characterized separately But they co-occur in real life, & we lack understanding on how people jointly integrate them: Why/When do people choose elevators over stairs? Our brilliant PhD, Sena, explores this! ⚽🧠

Really happy to share that my first PhD preprint is finally out!🥳 We suggest that time and effort should be studied together as a shared experiential cost w/@bcheval.bsky.social, @corimartarelli.bsky.social, Dr. Maltagliati, Dr. Chastin, and @wanjawolff.bsky.social Curious?👇 doi.org/10.31234/osf...

Good listen on the Exploit-Explore continuum w/ @katjarewitz.bsky.social Insightful for parents, coaches, and athletes. The basketball example reminiscent of Gen. Melchett in Blackadder: "Doing precisely what we've done 18 times before is exactly the last thing they'll expect us to do this time!"

I had such a great time on this episode! 🤩 I really enjoyed taking the explore-exploit trade-off beyond theory and discussing its relevance for athletes, coaches, and performance in real sport settings. 🏀🏌️‍♀️🏃‍♀️ Thanks so much for having me @danabrahamspsych.bsky.social

New preprint 📢 w/ @wanjawolff.bsky.social & @mbieleke.bsky.social we tracked boredom during a cycling task. Perceived effort generally increased over time – boredom didn't. Boredom varied strongly across individuals, and its dynamics predicted persistence beyond effort 📖 osf.io/preprints/ps...

I really enjoyed talking about investigating dynamic decision strategies in sports using the explore-exploit framework at #ISSP in Hong Kong. If you're interested in our recently published work on this topic ➡️ doi.org/10.1016/j.ps...

📺 A TV team from NDR visited our @dhprlab.bsky.social to learn about our current research & why boredom plays a powerful role in human behavior. You can spend three (German, but hopefully not boring) minutes watching it here: www.ndr.de/fernsehen/se... P.S. Thumbnail is not footage from our lab 😁
