Omitted the back seam to allow for even more uninterrupted print space, and wound up with a quick, elegant showpiece for Shaheen’s handprinted fabric. It’s perfect for our ridiculous October heatwave, too. (Crying in 100+ heat…)

I knew I wanted a simple silhouette to really let the print shine. I went with Simplicity 8912, a shift with a split neck and front slit. Its clean lines let the metallic (!!!) large scale print take center stage.

I have acquired a LOT of really gorgeous vintage fabric lately, and finally sewed some up! This is a 1960s print from Alfred Shaheen, who marketed himself as the inventor of the Hawaiian shirt. The fabric is crisp, handprinted cotton. I had some decision paralysis on this one — it’s too lovely.
