Overhearing two emeritus professors saying absolutely grim stuff about their HR department... saying they shouldn't need to do things like renew their access (they should) for people who are on double their money (they aren't)

This report is crucially important. Our University serves a whole region, with a widening participation agenda. We will now be a cold spot for Humanities, as our University has removed the opportunity for local students from WP backgrounds to study well-established and employable subjects.

hello! I haven't posted in a while - been finding it hard to feel academic and cool when I'm now 1.5 years post-phd and feel like the only person I know not making any progress, stuck in a job I dislike, can't get myself to write, etc.

Real question, how does anyone have the energy to even put themselves on the academic job market or write publications after the PhD... It's been 1.5 years and I still can't get out of bed

To reduce Austen’s writing to a set of aesthetics and tropes, punctuated by the clanging thud of exposition, is surely its own kind of disservice.
