Dodgy precenting but an otherwise excellent time at the High Sherrif's Thanksgiving Service @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social tonight. Dhruv Patel,High Sherriff, is a delight to work with & his guest list included interfaith leaders,as well as the Judiciary, Mayors, Emergency services & Pearly Royals

Willow and I were in mud conversation with cub#2 when a couple with 2 spaniels emerged from Geraldine Street. I swear even the dogs gave us A Look!

You see, I'm now at the stage where I'm seriously considering adding "There's a wideness in God's mercy" to every single service here til the C of E shows signs of believing this. "We make God's love too narrow by false limits of our own".

Excellent company from the Cubs on tonight's walk. They're an endearing mix of timid and curious right now. Kissy noises stop them in their tracks and I think they're getting used to my talking nonsense to them, though my neighbours may have other views. #WestSquareFoxes

Lovely day @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social. Such a privilege to preside at 9.00 as David Hoyle, who led my deaconing retreat, preached on Andrewes & later to welcome the girl choristers of Pembroke, Cambs, where Andrewes was Master, for Evensong. Gibbons Short Service as fab as ever. Tired but happy

A long time ago I agreed with the Principal of my ordination course at WEMTC that if we found ourselves having to defend Western Civilisation before God's throne, the B Minor Mass would provide powerful evidence. 25 years in I remain convinced we were right. It might just be perfect

My hopes of spending this week in London adventuring being thwarted by the wild temperatures, I spent the morning in the shade with good coffee in my favourite mug & a dragon-flavoured fantasy bought from the delightful Waystone Books on Skye. No complaints at all.

Having the BEST time helping Favourite Librarian prepare for the new school year. There's a bit of reshelving & labelling going on, which just led to the pleasing poem "Fun Fun, Fur, Hag". Fear we may have peaked...

Out of office on. Train on time. In 50 mins I should be within hugging range of my most favourite of all librarians, who just happens to be my daughter. It's fair to say I'm more than a little excited. Lovely landscapes too: the very essence of summer hols, like a Ladybird book illustration.

A good 35 years ago my friend J & I had a year as Chairs of Clapham & District NCT. Our lives involved lots playdates for our small ones, much drinking coffee & hours spent on Clapham Common. Today we met another friend there, a joyful reunion with coffee but no buggies. How did we become so old?!

In a world where much seems irreparably broken, the Schubert String Quintet is a joyous exception. I've loved it since a family friend lent me the Amadeus recording to play on the record player that was my reward for passing 11+. It is quite simply perfect & this evening was a fine performance. ❤️
