Lovely day @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social. Such a privilege to preside at 9.00 as David Hoyle, who led my deaconing retreat, preached on Andrewes & later to welcome the girl choristers of Pembroke, Cambs, where Andrewes was Master, for Evensong. Gibbons Short Service as fab as ever. Tired but happy

A long time ago I agreed with the Principal of my ordination course at WEMTC that if we found ourselves having to defend Western Civilisation before God's throne, the B Minor Mass would provide powerful evidence. 25 years in I remain convinced we were right. It might just be perfect

My hopes of spending this week in London adventuring being thwarted by the wild temperatures, I spent the morning in the shade with good coffee in my favourite mug & a dragon-flavoured fantasy bought from the delightful Waystone Books on Skye. No complaints at all.

Well, we did it! All books happily shelved, 90% labelled AND I got a badge. Rather regretting life choices as playing libraries was one of my favourite things as a book obsessed only child! But at least L gets to live the dream 😀

Having the BEST time helping Favourite Librarian prepare for the new school year. There's a bit of reshelving & labelling going on, which just led to the pleasing poem "Fun Fun, Fur, Hag". Fear we may have peaked...

Out of office on. Train on time. In 50 mins I should be within hugging range of my most favourite of all librarians, who just happens to be my daughter. It's fair to say I'm more than a little excited. Lovely landscapes too: the very essence of summer hols, like a Ladybird book illustration.

Much joy (a whole Ode to it, indeed) at tonight's #bbcprom, my first of this season. Always a pleasure to hear Beethoven here, specially in good company...and there's even a door to door bus for me!

A good 35 years ago my friend J & I had a year as Chairs of Clapham & District NCT. Our lives involved lots playdates for our small ones, much drinking coffee & hours spent on Clapham Common. Today we met another friend there, a joyful reunion with coffee but no buggies. How did we become so old?!

In a world where much seems irreparably broken, the Schubert String Quintet is a joyous exception. I've loved it since a family friend lent me the Amadeus recording to play on the record player that was my reward for passing 11+. It is quite simply perfect & this evening was a fine performance. ❤️
