Another quote from My Name is Mina by David Almond. A bit of encouragement for when writing isn't going according to plan: 'the story wouldn't keep still, wouldn't obey. The words danced like flies. They flew off in strange and beautiful directions ...' #writingcommunity #writingtips

A daily struggle: 'The story... does not fit the plan!' 'But it didn't want to...' 'What on earth do you mean, it didn't want to?... It is your story. It will do what you tell it to do.' 'But it won't.' From David Almond's My Name is Mina. Anyone else relate to this? #writingcommunity #writingtips

#WonderWords I love those times when I have to stop reading and admire the sentence I've just read. Today's sentence: so simple, so effective, from Brotherless Night by VV Ganeshananthan. Years later, when I return to Sri Lanka, Varathan will be an old man who has never left his country.

Phil removed his speech from his jacket, staring at the heavy cardstock he held. His own words glared at him under the stage lights. Polished and predictable, the words felt hollow now, inadequate, as if someone else had written them. #WIPSnips

She paused, tilting her head. “Are you okay?” No. He was anything but okay. “Yeah,” he lied, dragging a hand through his hair before forcing his lips into a half-smile. “I was just coming to check on you.” Her eyes softened. “That’s sweet.” #WIPSnips #amwriting #writingcommunity #scifiromance

Words are sacred. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones, in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.” Tom Stoppard

Great article on metaphors by Elle Nash, in the latest Mslexia magazine. Now to tackle those clichés... @saderotica.bsky.social @mslexia.bsky.social
