When I was a kid (70s-80s), one of the supposed signs of gifted kids was that they memorised the work quickly, then got bored. Past educators - that wasn’t giftedness, that was ADHD. We didn’t need to be segregated, we needed meds! #ADHD #GiftedKids #Education #AlsoAutistic #Audhd

I had the best interview question ever a couple of weeks ago: “What does hard work mean to you?” And I’m pretty sure the answer they wanted was something like: work smarter, prioritise, and leave on time as often as you can. I wish I’d said something as articulate as that, but of course I didn’t 🫠

We relinquished custody of our precious dog Brooklyn 4 years ago. Every time my husband’s ex has an obligation she doesn’t want to meet, she makes up some illness or other and tells us our dog is being put down the next day. How sick do you have to be to do that to someone? #CrazyEx #Dogs

My husband’s beautiful cousin passed away yesterday from cancer. I’m so angry and sad. She hadn’t even lived half her life yet. Now her little boy will grow up without her, her partner has to navigate life without her, and her dad has lost his light. It’s so fucking unfair!!! #fuckcancer

Am I the only person who finds Ken Burns documentaries incredibly comforting? The way he manages to bring people to life from a photograph or a letter gives me hope that empathy is not dead. The exhaustive detail in every episode gives me hope that learning and truth aren’t dead.

There’s a show on SBS called The American Revolution. It’s a much more balanced look at the people and events of the time. America has a murderous, racist past it’s not ready to come to terms with. Not just the South, but all of it. No wonder they’re in such a mess.

A dark cloud that has been hanging over our heads for 5 years is about to be lifted. The outcome isn’t fair, but it’s acceptable enough. We have had to make major concessions, but we can now bring this painful, drawn-out saga to a close. I’d forgotten what it was like to feel this much relief!

Very few narratives piss me off as much as the whole "let's give marginalised people LLM assistants for inclusion".

Inclusion does not mean giving marginalised people shittier versions of a thing: Sure you can give kids from poorer backgrounds an LLM to "learn" but what you are saying is that poor people are not worth having trustworthy sources of information. When you say that older or lonely people can talk to chatbots to feel less alone you are saying that some people are not worth a social life.

This is a deeply inhumane perspective that goes actively against the ideas and ideals of inclusion.

In my son’s first full-time job, he did manual work with a top-notch crew. They were paid really well. They were really good *because* they were paid well. The company gave them a reason to care. The loyalty of those workers prevented almost all mistakes and delays. Why don’t bosses know this?
