I'm so here for cats. If I died and found myself standing to be judged before some kind of giant terrifying feline god, I'd be so fine with that. loyal friend to her children all my life.

it's both a joke and not a joke that when I find myself wondering what I'm around on this earth for, I think, well, among other things... I'm Here For Cats

Ha ha, one time I tried to use the “buy online, pick up at store” taking public transit to an IKEA, and it was like no one had ever shown up without a car before and they didn’t really know what to do. ended up being directed to walk into a huge parking structure and stand in a parking spot

two vast and trunkless legs are here to stay

Whether it’s something odious (ai, nfts, metaverse) or just some harmless trend, imo the phrase “[thing] is here to stay” just reeks of a sort of desperate insistence, and also a bit of the hubris of a mythical king making prophecies assuming no vengeful or jokester gods are listening

I love this movie, like it’s incredible how distressing Just The Cave Exploration is before there’s any indication you ought to also be concerned about monsters

I just wrote a paranormal story in the form of a fictional forum thread! A young woman discovers a video captured from inside a recurring dream. Read here: suricrasia.online/unfiction/sp...

but I somehow figured out in my own little way how to have a cute, colourful space that I LIKE, with pets, that isn't a huge mess. I dunno, that's been huge for me these past few years when I've had reduced ability to do fun stuff Going Out, and I've had to be even more of an indoor cat.

honestly as a kid I felt like a different genre of human being than people who could keep rooms and desks and lockers clean and organized. I was always a scattered mess, and I also felt like...okay maybe I'll never have a Nice grownup living space because that seems boring and joyless

I was showing one of the nice staff at the vet clinic photos of the cats and she said "you have a beautiful home", and... maybe I finally did it, you guys. after all these years, I'm an adult who isn't a disaster

I love how that’d be a MORE valuable heist now. fast and/or furious crew of just a bunch of queer artist nerds into retro aesthetics . screaming and speeding up the car when they see that pink hello kitty one

I also apparently thought it was funny to keep Zelda saves named for children who owned the secondhand cartridge before me...and I guess all along I've been assuming they WERE children at the time, and not just like. Some Guy. some man dressed like Seinfeld playing SNES in 1994

Kathleen Jacques @kathmachine.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
side note, after not having a TV for them for a decade, starting up some of these games and seeing the saves is oddly haunting. why did I have a Final Fantasy save slot where the party is in some god forsaken part of the map and led by the yeti? and I can't warn the me who did that about The Future

Kathleen Jacques @kathmachine.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
It’s in good condition and runs great (which is more than can be said for some of these old game cartridges!) It’s a really petite 13”, just a cute little baby TV from the last days of CRTs that would have been nothing fancy at the time. but now, it’s perfect

Kathleen Jacques @kathmachine.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
still need to get a stand for this to sit on, but I’m really pleased with this! turns out it’s from 2006, which is mega late for a CRT…which makes me think there’s a good chance it’s had a relatively low amount of previous use, and has lots of life left.

Okay, somehow I first heard Dragula by: hearing a shaggy metal-guy teenager just quietly singing the chorus over and over to themselves at the back of the class instead of paying attention in school, and I thought “…Are they just making that up? cause it’s Pretty Good”

Oh, this makes so much sense! And yeah, yeah, agree, the way the nintendo 64 graphics look really adds something to the creepy-uncanny vibes of ocarina and majora's mask

Kathleen Jacques @kathmachine.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
Zelda has always been good at this tone, all the way back to the first one. It's this like heroic music magic sword adventure fantasy world with something *just not right* about it. sometimes the creepy is really front-and-center, sometimes not!

I don't have big thoughts on the Ocarina of Time remake, but you know what I always liked about that game? It's full of strange, creepy little moments that it doesn't over-explain. Like, I love that eerie guy who sits under a tree at night and says "People are disgusting"

I remember I just started laughing at that text like. wait. wait. I found a recipe for a what?! well, this is a challenge now. we have to build it, and also a forbidden horror room

looking back through my camera roll and, oh man, I had FORGOTTEN the last and most unhinged thing I did in Animal Crossing
Animal Crossing character on the beach: "SWEET! I learned a DIY recipe for a forbidden altar!"I have not only built "forbidden altar", but an entire horrible room for the forbidden altar. it's dark, and we've got fire and scarecrows and knives. my character is wearing a black robe and a gas mask

Got my birthday coming up on wednesday, and, I dunno, you guys, I have to make some kind of change this year ahead. I'm trying to frame it like...wow, I've been miraculously sent back in time, to when it was Not Too Late. gotta lock in and get in the scrooge waking up on christmas day zone

...when the same schools 50 to 100 ago, when girls were *less* likely to be encouraged to go to university, tended to be far more "sit down, be quiet, get yourself organized, and there's zero extra support and more punishment for kids who struggle to learn and behave in this environment"?

Thank you for verbalizing this so well in this thread! The framing of this topic has been driving me up the wall for years, especially the idea that the traits & learnable skills associated with success in modern schools *inherently* favor girls...

One time, years ago, I was out for beers with friends just having a blast, and the next day I found this scrap of paper where I'd written, really big with a pink marker, "WE'RE ALL ALIVE AT THE SAME TIME". I think about this stupid thing pretty often. like, hey, yeah, we ARE, and that's cool.

This week has felt like a real pile of trash in a hundred ways, but, I dunno, maybe I feel the wind changing. Got confirmation from a doctor today that something I was terrified about is almost certainly nothing. I'm alive with lots more left to do and love in this world, and so are all of you 👍

man, he was great, and just had the ability to bring any of these weird roles onto another level and make it ridiculously charismatic and memorable. not just anyone could, like…make the pollution monster from ferngully iconic

Kathleen Jacques @kathmachine.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
looking at his full list of credits: okay, this man did so much more cartoon and game voice work than I was aware of, and the assortment is BIZARRE. what do you mean he was in both Capitol Critters and Fish Police. what do you mean he played both “God” and “Serpent” in different weird bible cartoons

- and this one is absolutely not a classic EXCEPT IN MY HEART: he had a weird later-career role in my favorite terrible holiday movie, Christmas In Wonderland (2007)! It’s awful, but if you’ve ever spent time in Edmonton, Alberta where it’s strangely set, you might find it almost as funny as I did

Kathleen Jacques @kathmachine.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
and a couple of deep cuts I haven’t seen anyone mention yet: - ok, I love him in the 1993 Sierra point and click adventure game Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers. came out right near the end of that era of great early 90s pixel art, ridiculous voice cast that also had Mark Hamill and Michael Dorn

like, of course, Rocky Horror, Clue, IT, Legend, but I gotta take a moment to appreciate: - the absolute HOLD that Hexxus in Ferngully has on people roughly my age - Anything Can Happen On Halloween is a yearly watch in this house - and I almost forgot he was in Over The Garden Wall!

god, I love Tim Curry. appreciating seeing everyone posting about their favorite roles of his, and most of them would probably be like THE strangest one-off thing on just about any other actor’s resume

Tim Curry and Dolly Parton have taught us not only that you should be bigger, weirder, gayer, and freakier, but also that those qualities are what people will love about you. The things that make you strange and amazing are the things that will resonate with other strange and amazing people

Luna had to be on the other side of the bedroom door from me for like maybe an hour this morning, and she meowed and meowed nonstop and now she's stuck herself in my lap like glue. the overwhelming Ordeal of being a little creature who wants to hang out with mom

This is great, and looking at it is kinda hitting me with an emotion like: this is so totally part of an unbroken line for humanity all the way back to the paleolithic? We LOVE animal drawing, and teaching each other the joy of making animals with shapes and lines

It calls to you, this...thing that crawls into the discarded husks of other stores and disappears once again. So much around you feels empty, liminal, unstable under your feet. Are you drawn to the cycle of seasons, the impermanence of all things, the shifting beast who wears any skin? Welcome home.

also vaguely grim before, actually. welcome home, consumer. you live at a big chain store for towels and stuff. and it’s not even sort of fun like going to the ikea
