Abigail Adams, wife/close advisor of US President John Adams & #womensrights advocate, was born #OTD in 1744. This quote, from a 1776 letter to John, is one of the earliest recorded calls in American #history for women’s legal & political equality--written right when the country was being born.
Split image. Left: 18th-century portrait of Abigail Adams as a young woman with dark hair pulled back, wearing a pink ribbon, pearl choker, and blue-pink satin gown with lace trim, looking calmly at the viewer. Right: text of her famous 1776 quote threatening rebellion if women are left out of the new nation’s laws; "If particular care and attention is not paid to the ladies, we are determined to foment a rebellion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice or representation." and signed “– Abigail Adams.” A timeless call for equality.

RIP Jane Goodall, one of my heroes, and the catalyst for my lifelong love, and curiosity, for primates. While her lectures were riveting in general, I particularly enjoyed when she'd break into the chimp patois. What an extraordinary person.

Unsolicited writing advice, #17171617: Don't just write. Read books. Watch films. Look at paintings and sculpture. Play games. Go to plays. Listen to music. Think about how these things make you feel. Making art is a two-way stream. To make art, you have to consume art.
