From tonight's Hookland talk on Re-enchantment as Resistance at @treadwells-books.bsky.social. 'Folklore is often the wild frontier of belief, the place where wonder may still live. Here be Woodwoses, here be Harrowhounds, the ghosts which whisper wisdom.' #FolkloreThursday
Folklore can ignite enchantment within us. Enchantment that fuels our imaginations. Enchantment that shifts our consciousness, allows us to envisage new and better worlds. It begins the process of manifesting the changes we desire. Re-enchanted, the world is full of new, feral possibilities. Re-enchanted our imagination is an accessible superpower.

The stories we intentionally absorb, the stories we select to tell ourselves, they allow us to live in the world differently. They allow us to make and remake the world differently.

Folklore is often the wild frontier of belief, the place where wonder may still live. Here be Woodwoses, here be Harrowhounds, the ghosts which whisper wisdom. We need this space. We ache for the sublime. For re-enchantment is an assertion of wonder and the numinosity of our relationships with landscape. Re-enchantment is an assertion of our collective ability to both imagine and experience better worlds. As a refusal of despair, as a lensing of hope. In re-enchantment we stop dreaming of inevitable apocalypse and find the permissive space to tell stories of hope.

Re-enchantment is personal metamorphosis. The space in which we grow glowing red eyes to patrol our communities against this long night of authoritarian pisspuffinry. The space in which we develop iron-hard fur, immune to the curses reductionist racists, misogynists, homophobes and AI cultists throw at us. Re-enchantment as the permissive circle where we can voyage into ourselves and find the marvels and bravery we need to deal with this age of violent bruising. This is why I walk the territory of folklore. Wear my witch-cloak of swan feathers, hold hag stone to my eye. This is why I created Hookland as a home for stories, a community for Fully-grown Changelings.

Yes. It does not matter if you think the Kennedy Center is bougie: private individuals do not get to destroy public goods. If you budge one iota on this stance, then you lose the right to object when he demands bits of the national parks as a treat. You've already agreed with him on the principle.

Still cracking up over the idea of a movie asking "What if Scrooge had a point," because A) he didn't and B) it's not as if we haven't already had the entire run of DuckTales to explore this question

I witnessed Spider-Man going into action yesterday in Minneapolis. He rode in on the back of a muscle car. Then leaped onto the pickup, right before unleashing a hail of fists onto his nemesis, Jake Lang, Jayden Scott, and their minions.

I dreamed there was a mineral called "apocrypha" that you could buy at crystal shops. It looked like white marble or ceramic, with little dark scribbly marks that turned out to be the remnants of prehistoric drawings.

I just looked up a photo to check a detail after months of working on an Edwardian period piece about a haunted rocking horse, and WHAT DO YOU MEAN bow rockers had mostly been replaced by "safety stands" by the 1910s? How can it creak ominously through the house at night if it's on a SAFETY STAND?

The rise in rulings on the “shadow docket” has been driven, at least in part, by Trump’s losses in lower courts. “The patterns show a court going out of its way to enable Trump,” one scholar said. “That’s the real blow to the court’s credibility.”

Trees act like natural air conditioners, and they do it in two ways: Shade: They block the sun from hitting the ground. Active cooling: This is the cool science part. Trees "sweat" by releasing water into the air.

They do, though. Every country has horrible politicians. The specifics of our system are the issue: unchecked corporate influence is permitted, the president has WAY too much power, winner-take-all elections enforce polarization, we have no no-confidence option to recall bad politicians, etc. etc.
