Twenty kids? I'll have you know there were 42 kids in my 4th grade classroom, and those big numbers persisted all the way through high school (Boomer here, of course). I wouldn't have blamed the teachers for doing what you suggest.

Some of us are physically unable to vote in person-- it's not just a matter of transportation. It's having to stand in long lines( which will be longer if voting by mail is blocked. )

My sister-in-law grew up in Puerto Rico. When I told her about Dolly Parton’s passing, she looked puzzled—no recognition of the golden voice or public persona—until her face lit up and she said, “Oh! The book lady!” I think Dolly would love to be remembered this way by a mother of two.

That's what makes teaching worth it all, IMO! That they learned, they're grown and doing well, and sweetly, that they remember us, however fuzzily. A few of mine went on to be musicians for a living, and some still sing or play. One is a music teacher! I smile at the memories.

No, except for selling Christmas wrap the first year I taught, in later years there were district restrictions on the number of fundraisers a school could have, so they were to fund other things. Yes, and now I see funding requests on social media from teachers each summer. And Donors Choose.

No, like you, I did what I could to meet the needs of my students. I don't regret spending a single penny of that money. I've been out since 2012, but for years after I retired young adults would come up to me in the grocery store and say "Ms Goodwin! I remember when we did that play...."😊

Yes indeed. And if we were doing a published (children's) musical, most years I bought the conductor's score, the very expensive accompaniment CD, and the 10 copies of the musical require to be purchased to get the rights to production. But it's ok--it gave "my" kids great opportunities to perform.

Our governor (Queen Sarah Huckabee) is working as fast as she can to destroy public schools in Arkansas by diverting state money to vouchers for private "schools" that are totally unregulated and exempt from state testing. So depressing.
