Working with the CERL Thesaurus: Endless duplicates with the cni (printers/workshops) records. But still better than the cnp (persons) records with their faulty merges e.g. data.cerl.org/thesaurus/cn... Johannes Chrysostomus (4th c.) merged with Johannes Chrysostomus Soldus (15th c.).

Whether people like it or not, use of AI in historical research is coming, and will have a big impact. The transcription process described here produces something quite new, and is scaleable. open.substack.com/pub/generati...

When Models Disagree...Transcription Accuracy Improves Significantly
Cross-LLM verification catches 76% of transcription errors, but it only works if we build systems that augment human abilities rather than replace them.

To get that kind of storage, you’re looking at $10,000+ USD for enough hard drives and NAS systems to store the data. This makes me wonder who on earth has the resources to run these pirate sites. eve.gd/2026/01/01/t...

#Transkribus model for the #ocr of Greek #incunabula from the workshop of Zacharias Calliergis worked out quite nicely 😌 using only 22 pages of training material and app.transkribus.org/models/publi... as a base model. (Screenshot from digital.ulb.hhu.de/ink/content/...).

Combining the layout segmentation of Transkribus with kraken models for text recognition can yield good results, but it is absolutely necessary to recalculate the line polygons when doing so. (Comparing doi.org/10.5281/zeno... and app.transkribus.org/models/publi...) #kraken #ocr #escriptorium

Having to do replacements on all my transcriptions because typegreek.com uses tonos instead of acute... 🙈 ("a/" gets you GREEK SMALL LETTER ALPHA WITH TONOS, but "a/)" gets you GREEK SMALL LETTER ALPHA WITH PSILI AND OXIA).

I never know what to make of vertical accent marks in prints by Zacharias Kallierges (1473-1524). It feels like the ambiguous accents often - but not always - occur before punctuation (where one would expect an acute). Any ideas? #classicsbluesky #ancientbluesky #ancientgreek #greek #bookhistory
The words "τῶν κατὰ συμβεβηκός. πολλάκις" in a 15th-century print. While the grave accent in κατὰ and the accent in πολλάκις are clearly distinguished, the accent in συμβεβηκός seems ambiguous.
