May I bring into this delightful thread a pic of my brown (specifically cafe au lait since she faded from her original chocolate brown) poodle Lucy. Also, there is no way Waffles will forget you so quickly!
A close up of a very happy light brown mini poodle.

Hurray for you and an EV! An EV is the single purchase that’s given me palpable satisfaction for the longest time. I was surprised by how long i felt great about the purchase. The quick pick up is fun, no bad smell, driving past gas stations and not having to stop ever, pre-heating on cold mornings

Love to see my beloved neighborhood discussed 🥰 the areas play into the neighborhood association. Each area gets 3 board members. Areas 8 & 9 were added while I was board pres. to cover new housing near Wirth park. We wanted to be welcoming & include board representation from new neighbors.

Training for a triathlon in MN summer has become an exercise in faith that the air will be healthy enough and the temperature not dangerous (in addition to endurance). Grateful for such improvement in air this morning and slightly lower temps so I can test out the results of months of training.

So sorry, Aimee. The slow-rolling loss and grief of dementia is extremely painful. I am now caring for a second parent with Alzheimer’s and know this pain all too well. Hugs to you and yours. And may you find moments of joy amidst it all.

I just looked up from my kitchen sink and looked out the window to see this friend about 10 feet away. Awestruck.

How do we determine in a reasonable policy conversation who should pay skyrocketing costs for businesses, home insurance, infrastructure, health. Increasing risk increases cost. Climate change, fundamentally, is about risk increasing. How do we make that connection so people understand?

In the public conversation about whether we talk about climate change, I have yet to see discussion of how to make sense of higher insurance costs driven up by climate-fueled disaster. How do we explain the strain on government budgets bc infrastructure is breaking down faster?

I met a woman in Mpls working as a clerk at a local shop. She had moved from New Orleans. Her Nola landlord had to raise rent bc insurance was so expensive. And this woman moved to Mpls driven, at least in part, to seek lower costs. How do we explain this w/o talking about climate change?

Some of the people I most admire are those who dedicate their lives to the day-to-day government work of keeping us all safe. And the career folks at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission are definitely those people. This is so concerning.

Yes! I’ve seen it in the yard a few times. So big! Here is a gorgeous picture from a couple weeks ago. I saw it twice today as well.

The low-maintenance costs (and not having to make the appointments for maintenance like oil changes) are one of the many reasons I love driving an electric car.

I had to do the first-ever maintenance on my 2017 Bolt (which I bought used ~5 years ago). It was making a weird noise. I took it to the dealership, they hooked it up to a computer, it was a quick software fix, cost $200. That's $200 in maintenance across 5 years.

The lengths women go to protect community and build better futures. My heart breaks for Dolores Huerta and the other women abused in the movement. And my heart swells again and again in gratitude for the many women who keep each other and our communities safe.

Update on the first bike commute of the season. After a season of being closed, my favorite bridge over the Mississippi River is open! The Dinkytown Greenway Bridge (aka Bridge 9). Isn’t that view just gorgeous?

First bike/bus commute of the season on @metrotransitmn.bsky.social! I’m a bit of a fair-weather bike commuter especially with dark and ice. But new season is here! And I can’t help note it coincides with the onset of $100/barrel oil prices.

I’ve had the honor & pleasure of working with Ashley. So grateful she is bringing her skill & wisdom to this moment in this way. I’m tempted to say her magic, but that isn’t right. She is a talented person who loves her community and stepped up. It feels like magic, but we can all do it in some way.

My neighborhood doesn’t get great bus service. The 9 is the only one, and it only comes every half hour. So, catching it with after just a 2-minute wait felt like a winter storm miracle. Hurray for transit!

The twin cities snowstorm was more than i expected! So I last-minute decided to walk/train/bus home from St Paul to Mpls. And I’ve had the best @metrotransitmn.bsky.social experience. The trip advisors on the green line dealt respectfully w/ someone smoking on train. And I caught the 9 bus quickly!

Bring all the detained children home to Minnesota. And stop detaining children. It is horrifying that this is happening. The educators working so hard to hold their school communities together and sound the alarm for all of us to act are heroes. These educators are heroes who protect kids.

Parents are afraid to send their kids to school, classrooms sit half-empty, children are being taken to detention facilities. We’ve crossed a line. I stood with education leaders to discuss the growing harm federal actions are causing to children, families, and our schools.

I love Mpls. My kid has a small list of safe foods including a v. specific order from our neighborhood pizza shop. Today, 5 mins after ordering, I got a call from them confirming it was right. It wasn’t! The guy making it recognized the order & that it wasn’t right. So, he checked. Dinner saved! 🥺

Calling the residents of Minnesota who have been shown documenting or attempting to witness ICE activities in our midst “protesting” is inaccurate. ICE is ubiquitous. We don’t go to ICE, we see it in our daily lives. Secondly, legal observing is our only recourse to defend ourselves. 👇🏻

Gathered with my neighbors to to light a candle and sing for Alex, for our neighbors in fear, for each other. Courage is not absence of fear. It is feeling fear and showing up anyway.
