Help, I've been personally victimized by my own writing. (Daddy Hook hits different)

“Michelle.” He pulls me into a hug, wrapping me up in his strength the way he’s done since I was a little kid. Back then, I thought there was no villain who could stand against him. Back then, he didn’t shake when he held me. “It’s not right to ask this of you.”

What's your next WIP, Katee? THEM. (Michelle Hook, Zayne Sarraf, Niko Romanov in a Robber Bridegroom remix) Art: @meowlayn.bsky.social

Illustrated art of three people in an embrace. A plus-sized woman stands between two men. She and the blond behind her are wearing wedding rings and the blond has a knife to the groin of the other man. The other man has a knife to the throat of the blond. It's sexy.

Reposting in a more readable format: It's my birthday! Full recs and links in thread! Alt text also contains the full recs.

I Got Abducted by Aliens and Now I'm Trapped in a Rom-Com by Kimberly Lemming
This book is just a joy. I don't normally gravitate toward alien romance, but this book made a believer of me. Dory is such a FUN character and she's constantly like NOTHING MAKES BIOLOGICAL SENSE HERE. Add in two sexy aliens, a talking lion, and a research assistant owl creature, and you have a book I'll return to again and again.

Feast While You Can by Mikaella Clements & Onjuli Datta
Listen, if I have to shove this book into the hands of every person even remotely interested in horror romance, I'm going to do it. Moody and atmospheric, this one had some truly scary moments. The character work was phenomenal. And sexy sapphics!

The Blood Trials by NE Davenport
This is the book I recommend people try if they enjoyed Fourth Wing and don't know where to go next. Ikenna is such an amazing character and her grief and rage are so relatable, considering her circumstances. Sure, everyone is trying to kill her and her instructor is kind of hot, but she's the best of the best for a reason...

The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by NK Jemisin
I love all of NK Jemisin's books, but this series holds a special place in my heart. The story and world are lush and terrible and perfect. While I wouldn't say it necessarily has a romantic subplot, I WILL say it contains one of my favorite sub-tropes of "We're going to have sex, but also you might very well kill me in the process..."

I Was a Teenage Slasher by Stephen Graham Jones
I LOVE the Jade Daniels series, but this book offers a different perspective on slashers. It hurts in the best way possible, an ache in your chest that you can't quite reach. He's really at the top of his slasher game with this book, and his love for the genre shines through with every word.

I booked some "slice of life" art in Q4 of last year and the pieces are starting to be finished. This is the Next Gen #2 crew (Jafar's daughter, a Romanov, and his very messy and loving partners). Art: Kayra Khan

Illustrated art showing five people huddled on a couch, watching a horror movie. From left to right: Viktor has a nonplussed look on his face and is crunching a soda can with one hand. Zoya is clutching at Viktor's shoulder and looks ready to fight someone. Sanura is huddled up with a teddy bear and rainbow sucks, watching out of the corner of her eye. Alexi has his chin propped on his fist and is tense as hell. Binx lays across Alexi's lap and against Sanura's leg, tossing popcorn into their mouth and wearing bunny slippers.

The concept of what makes a monster (and if monsters are deserving of love) is something I circle a lot in my books. Personally, I've identified with the monster of a lot of properties more than their "normal" counterparts. ANYWAY. (The Monster Theory Ready, edited by Jeffrey Andrew Weinstock)

A picture of a page from The Monster Theory Reader, edited by Jeffrey Andrew Weinstock. Highlighted text: Foucault's work in the second half of the twentieth century constitutes a "tipping point" as concerned monster theory, as it insists that we consider the label of monster as a mechanism of social control and form of oppression--and it is this understanding of monsters as disenfranchised victims of an oppressive dominant culture that informs the twentieth century's most significant development in monstrous representative: giving voice to the monster.
