I got to supervise a wand making station for kids at a local Fairy Fair pop up market in a fully sculpted out art space yesterday, dressed as (newly named) Pennyroyal the unicorn. It was SO much fun and I got to see some amazing artists! I love being a unicorn 🧚

I haven't been good about posting WIPs for Lanzhou here, but I'll make a thread once I have more than just the mock up done. I do wanna share the embroidery on my under robe collar, though, because I'm so proud of it! I wanted a red accent and realized the plum blossoms would be a perfect fit.

Since our household is doing ALA next month, we did a small Christmas at home, and @kaleviv.bsky.social got me these absolutely adorable cookie jars 🤩 I'm thinking of using them for less used sewing supplies, maybe....

(all of these last few tweets are out of order for me sob but at least the info is right!) Side openings sewn shut using a bobbin that matches the lining & top thread that matches the shell! I also cut excess lining to minimize bulk, then rolled & pressed the hem. Now it's ready to be hand sewn!

Li Yu's outer robe is almost done!! I slipstitched the front opening of the robe to the lining, then pinned & basted the side openings. Next I'm going to mark & remove excess from the hem, then machine stitch the side openings, then hem and add a closure!! His wig also arrived & I ordered a guan 👀

The outer robe is almost done!! Bodice fishies have been sewn on and now I'm on to sewing up the bottom panels via a ladder stitch. It's easy to do while watching TV, which is great, and once the panels are mostly sewn I can then hem it and attach a small closer that will be hidden under the belt.

One fish has been sewn on! It's a slow process (took 3 or 4 sessions, 30min to an hour each) but I'm so pleased with the finished look. Onto the next!

Been a while but I got a chance to work on Li Yu! Current completion goal: ALA. Sewn sleeves & the collar, now I'm slowly sewing the fish appliques to the bodice! I waited to do this until I had the collar, sleeves, & some lining in just to confirm placement. Also, it looks so cute with the belt!

(ignore the deleted posts, had to fix the thread smh) Belt is almost done!! I used the poly chiffon from my under robe, some lace for detail, leftover turquoise silk taffeta from a commission, and a poly taffeta for the center band of the belt (faced in the same red as my main robe).

First image of how most of it will look together, so I could figure out applique placement on the bodice. The belt is very rough here, just so I had an idea of color. I also drafted the sleeve for this robe, instead of using the pattern's small cap-style sleeve.

May have forgotten to continue this thread, oops! I've made some good progress so far. Over robe cut from a poly taffeta in this lovely pink/orange toned crimson poly taffeta! I'm lining it in a deep teal cotton and made bias strips for the collar (not originally part of the pattern).

Gonna be wearing another unicorn look at @hollandreno.bsky.social's summer event this evening and I can't WAIT. I made a sleeve for my cane and covered it in flowers to turn it into a proper magical walking staff, too!

My new apartment backs up to a community pond so I went for a walk today-- I was surrounded by the peeping of baby ducks, saw some pelicans, and found a COOL STICK. Gonna turn it into my Ren faire walking stick!
