'As men in balaclavas try to stop lifeboats saving people, something different is happening on the coast of North Devon. In a community changed by an asylum hotel, new friendships are being forged – and a group of refugee schoolgirls are learning to surf like the locals.' 🏄🏽‍♀️ youtu.be/cP5JCtqOgnM?...

So very sorry to hear this. Sarah was the power and the brains behind WIMIN - her energy and passion in the face of her illness were truly inspiring. Rest in peace Sarah and condolences to her family and friends.

Spending an hour browsing vinyls in a tiny and chaotic record store discussing music in broken Franglais with the owner was one of the highlights of our recent holiday. Claude can fro with his “vinyl mode”.

Somewhere there’s a “heartwarming” post about how his coworkers donated their leave so this elderly man could recover from his heart attack. A grim indictment on American healthcare and employment rights.

The poor floozie has lost her jacuzzi and now half sits, half reclines in a very uncomfortable looking pose in a small park on the quays.

If fuel taxes are to be cut then I want those supporting (govt/tds/protestors) those tax cuts to state what other public services/projects are going to be underfunded/cancelled to pay for those cuts. Let the electorate know the cost of those cuts. And then seen how much support they have #speirgorm

Who are the dolts who keep doing this? (I don’t think this is the first time the area has been vandalized) May they be haunted for the rest of their lives.

"It will happen this way. You may be walking. Maybe the first sunny day of the spring. And your phone messenger will alert. First one, then three, then eight. Perhaps some will call. You will hear car horns honking. Joyfully. People will begin to pour out in the street . . ."

Still from Derry Girls - grandpa Joe has his hand on his son in laws shoulder as they watch a newsreel about a bomb explosion.

I read Mark O’Connell’s book To Be A Machine a few years ago. At the time I thought it was a dystopian but ultimately theoretical vision of the future. Now these horrors seem to be the norm.

As of Cabinet yesterday, one now needs the ability to communicate in order to be considered a citizen. Yet in the first three months of 2026, not a single child in ten counties was given a plan on how the State would deliver them with speech and language therapy. This week’s column @thejournal.ie:

Gavan Reilly: Six months by law. 24.3 months in reality. Ireland's disability numbers don't add up
The eye-watering numbers of children waiting for Assessment of Need in this country expose a broken system offering little hope to families.
