The 2026 Barkley Marathons began with one of the strongest fields ever. The starting field came from 15 Counties as well as 15 States, and included ten women. The course seemed not to care. Over 70% of the field is done. #BM100

We are 36 hours into the race, meaning the three runners still on Loop 3 cannot continue to Loop 4. However, if they complete Loop 3 within 40 hours they will be credited with a Fun Run. That’s where the real race is now. #BM100

I think that’s fair, and I wonder if when I get to that stage I’ll post about that too. At this stage it’s holding code labels in my head (and failing) so I know I have codes that need collapsing. Part of the (my?) process, but currently feels like I’m doing something “wrong”.

At the heart of every attack on disability benefits is the myth disabled people “get perks”: a free car, loads of cash, a life off work. It misrepresents the reality of disability, whilst exploiting low wages and high living costs to make the public envy people in daily pain.

Drastic cuts to PIP will affect as many as 1 million disabled and ill people, pushing them into severe hardship, worsening physical and mental health, and isolation. There is no credible argument for pulling help from people shouldering the high costs of disability. Cruelty dressed up as reform.

Racism, ableism, and Nazi atrocities are all directly linked to the eugenics movement. In fact, Hitler went to USA, attended a few eugenics conferences and thought, well that sounds like a jolly good idea. 3/5

Started familiarisation today. What strikes me so far is just how much autistic patient participants thought about what other patients might need to successfully access healthcare. I was asking about their needs, but the needs of others were at the forefront of their answers. Empathy in spades. 🥹
