Zwart, ellende, ondergang. Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaange zinnen (soms een heel boek in 1 zin). Je zal het vakmanschap van de vertalers waarderen, dit is echt next-level

Scribe bought the rights - look at the list of countries! www.uitgeverijpassage.nl/internationa... Great story - she published about 10 books without big success. All big publishers rejected her, so she chose a small one, 10 minutes from her home by bicycle. Then The Remembered Soldier came out.

So great to see this on your blog! Daanje is from the same provincial town as I am (1 street away from me), but her scope is much greater. Her next book is one for the ages too: a fictionalised life of Emily Brontë, told in 11 linked novellas. Hope it soon reaches the Eng speaking market as well.

There also is a single volume edition, very expensive. There are many notes and clarifications by the translator in each of the four books, very well done. I have the Royall Tyler translation as well, for extra info

You can be sure I'm reading along, with Jos Vos's translation into Dutch. A second time through book 1-2, the other two will be a maiden trip. Thank you for doing this!

If AI were plagiarising Disney, Warners, etc, it would have been shut down. But it plagiarises freelance writers & artists. Publishers response? Tumbleweed…PRH’s anti-scraping line is belied by its intention to “use generative AI tools […] where we see a clear case that they can advance our goals.”

I just read this yesterday evening - www.mono-konsum.com/index.php/mo... Very interesting to read about his 'reportage' style of writing. How he loves to immerse himself in the areas he writes about and how he has to force himself to leave them to start writing. I must go on a Price binge now.

In January 2021, during the third national lockdown, I pulled into this deserted pub car park to turn the van round and found a lamppost and a bin engaged in lively conversation while they thought no one was looking. Incredible.
A photograph of a deserted pub car park surrounded by bare trees on a murky day: wet asphalt, grey sky. In the centre, next to a flumpy yellow cypress tree, are a litter bin and an ornamental lamppost who appear to be sharing a joke together. The head of the lamp is bent at an angle so it appears to be looking down at the bin whose lid has broken given it the appearance of a laughing face.

If you're looking for a crime psycho romp of a novel outside the dime-a-dozen police procedure avalanche, John Burnside's GLISTER (2008) is your thing. Leave David Lynch in a disused chemical plant and this is what you get. Thanks to SherdsTube channel for putting it on my radar.
