They’d be out for a decade, but before they can even start their romantic Wrexham style rise people will have almost forgotten they’ve gone

So they are definitely relegated as much as is plausible but they can’t even start working their way back up til they’ve worked their way down.

It only stops when they finally use up all the points deduction. By my reckoning that would be league 2 at very very best if they can absolutely smash everyone. Most likely national league or national league south.

Karim Palant @karimpalant.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

So that each season they have to win the most possible games to use up their points deduction - they have to try and win as a club- but the players start each season knowing that whatever they do they’re going down.

Here is my contribution to the Man City punishment debate. By my reckoning a proportional pts deduction to Everton would be 280 pts. So take their points total at end of season subtract enough to relegate them. Say it’s 48 pts. They start in the championship with - 232 pts. Do the same - 1/..

But the European trophies thing is also covered in the podcast which is excellent - despite not dwelling enough on the dual open top bus tour which must have been excruciating for the players but which as a five year old I quite enjoyed 😂 @jonawils.bsky.social

Karim Palant @karimpalant.bsky.social · 14/09/2026

My memory of the season is in the aftermath of heysel there was such a focus on fans being fraternal that Everton and Liveprool agreed before the final games to do a **joint** open top bus tour - which would have worked if Everton hadn’t been double **runners up** and had won on of the trophies 😂

I suspect you didn’t see many games on TV that season … the league and tv companies failed to agree a deal and there was literally zero league football on tv. A recent book about the season which I must read is covered in this great interview open.spotify.com/episode/7GP0...

In the modern game full backs have become increasingly valuable because they are so important in Both attach and defence. So I like Everton’s approach of ensuring maximum squad cost rule flexibility by building a squad entire devoid of them.
