Our new paper "Intrinsic Computational Functionalism (ICF) and Simulated Consciousness" is out (with Shuqin Ma). arxiv.org/abs/2606.15348 In this paper, we show that if we accept the assumptions of ICF, a simulation of a conscious system should also be conscious.

Intrinsic Computational Functionalism and Simulated Consciousness
A common objection to artificial or simulated consciousness is that a simulated brain is no more conscious than simulated water is wet. We address this from the perspective of Intrinsic Computational ...

I’m happy to share our new preprint on “canonical functionalism.” (with Shuqin Ma) The core idea is that functional structure can be uniquely identified by the system’s counterfactual state-transition structure, without arbitrary semantic labels. arxiv.org/abs/2605.21506
