If there was also an Oguri Cap figure eating like the beast she is, I would also buy that in a flash.

Oguri Cap, the peak has arrived. Because Cap means peak.

Fun story, one the friends I grew up with had evangelical parents who didn't appreciate that their son kept borrowing my books that were laced with "satanic" imagery. This was the exact picture they gave me as an example, not the various other random monsters in the book.

The Lone Wolf game book series was responsible for me getting into RPG's way before games like Fallout and Baldur's Gate (they predate my PC gaming era). Now I finally brought the set I grew up with after my trip back to Malaysia.

For the past week, I've been enjoying Timberborn. This dam city builder of the game is best when you leave it to the beaver.

Also not just an ad for Street Fighter 6, the show is also product placement for arcade sticks, particularly the Hori Real Arcade Pro V, and the Mad Catz T.E.3

The absolute fun bit about the yuri in TaiAri is that it doesn't follow the trope of Enemies to Lovers. It's hilariously (in a good way) all over the place because any gamer worth their salt will instantly adore someone who can be their challenger for life.

Edrei "Daemons of the Four Seasons Hotels" Zahari @kamigoroshi.net · 29/07/2026

Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games follows the same formula as Rock Is a Lady's Modesty where girls going to a prestigious all girls school secretly do something they aren't supposed to. As a gamer, I'm instantly sold by this show, more so, since it's also yuri.

My daughter was partially annoyed she found out about Witch Hat Atelier x Copic Marker set after its sold out. So she made a tiny Brush Buddy out of modelling clay, because she can.

The Cat and The Dragon is such a whimsical fantasy about a dragon who was raised by cats, who in turn raises future generations of cats descended from his siblings. Each episode is a story of a unique cat who forms a bond with a human. 100% locked in because cats.

It's probably me but it really feels that Iron Blooded Orphans and Witch From Mercury may be the last well written Gundam in a while. GQuuuuuuX was alright, but there wasn't really any weight there unless I fuelled it with nostalgia, which I didn't have.

The villain of the new Gundam XARX looking at the mecha with the tattered cape be like...

Edrei "Daemons of the Four Seasons Hotels" Zahari @kamigoroshi.net · 24/07/2026

Maybe I'm just jaded by how franchises try and appeal to the popular crowd but the new Gundam Zero model, with its cape and different arm screams edgy chunibuyo syndrome that a subset of anime fandom will eat up. That's probably why it was announced in SDCC not Japan time.

Edrei "Daemons of the Four Seasons Hotels" Zahari @kamigoroshi.net · 24/07/2026

Let me get this straight, the protagonist of the new Gundam series is named Ray Azumi, and we have an unmasked, but still smug Char-like character, and red Gundam. Red flags of storytelling aside, we'll see where this version of Gundam takes us.

The best parts of Victoria of Many Faces isn't the action but character narratives. The show is deliberate in using slower scenes to set to the mood for introspection and that show-not-tell aspect is important in trying to adapt an LN.

001

Edrei "Daemons of the Four Seasons Hotels" Zahari @kamigoroshi.net · 23/07/2026

Victoria of Many Faces is another favourite this season. It is a more nuanced Spy x Family without gags and powers. Still the same found family theme, but with a female protagonist who wants to be free of her past life as a spy. 3 episodes in and I am sold.

Science Saru's Ghost in the Shell adaptation is hella fun. And I say this as a long time fan of Stand Alone Complex. There is always room for more, especially a more quirky (manga accurate) version of Motoko Kusanagi and her squad. This should have been what Cyberpunk was about.

One of my favourite isekai is Campfire Cooking, so Forsaken Saintess and her Foodie Roadtrip should be a gender-swapped no brainer. However it doesn't feel as good as it should or maybe my expectations are too high. It's still fun as a goofy food fest, so I'll stay with it.

Love Unseen Beneath The Clear Night Sky is a disability themed romance that follows in the footsteps of similar stories like A Sign of Affection. Consider me sold on a story about a boy who blinds himself to the world, and a blind girl who wants to experience everything it has to offer.

Funnily enough, I watched this just after coming home from Malaysia. So when the adhan (Muslim call to prayer) sung during the opening scene, my wife was like, "Am I hearing it right? I thought I was still in Malaysia!"

012

Edrei "Daemons of the Four Seasons Hotels" Zahari @kamigoroshi.net · 23/07/2026

Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia is a stand out show this season with a female Muslim protagonist who plots revenge over the Mongols who killed people she cared for. Don't let the cuteness fool you, this show builds on the character motives with heavy intent. You will be invested.

As a fan of the manga, I really love how the Kaiju Girl Caramalise adaptation is doing it justice. I don't need any more battle shonen fighting. But shojo romance where blooming adolescence and insecurity manifest as kaiju transformation? Top tier plot and character narrative.

Edrei "Daemons of the Four Seasons Hotels" Zahari @kamigoroshi.net · 23/07/2026

I really enjoy the trend where comedy meets horror and Reiwa no Dara-san does it well. The ecchi doesn't feel like its fan-service. It's just there because she's a curse and made to be a moe gag. The backstory flashbacks carry the show, and the horror scenes anchor it all down.

100

Edrei "Daemons of the Four Seasons Hotels" Zahari @kamigoroshi.net · 23/07/2026

Reiwa no Dara-san is one of my favourite shows this season. It's also one of the rare ecchi anime (featuring nipple boobs) I don't mind. It's selling point is how it blends serious folk horror with gag comedy where 2 schoolkids befriend a local curse spirit.

110

Edrei "Daemons of the Four Seasons Hotels" Zahari @kamigoroshi.net · 23/07/2026

Heroine? Saint? No I'm An All-Works Maid is unabashedly (otome) isekai slop with an OP character who just wants to work as a maid. However, I'm using it as a chill buffer between more heavier stuff this season. But there are better shows this season and I may drop this midway.

000

Edrei "Daemons of the Four Seasons Hotels" Zahari @kamigoroshi.net · 23/07/2026

I am not a smoker, but Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You is such a cute rom-com that makes good use of the oblivious male protagonist trope. I was already sold from the first episode with its cute chill vibe, so I'm staying with this one to the end.

So far my top 4 favourite shows for the season that I binged to their most recent episodes are: Dara-san of Reiwa Victoria of Many Faces Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia Kaiju Girl Caramalise Not that others are bad, but these are the ones I can't stop thinking about.

Any similarity of those photos to this scene which has a certain tsundere character whose persona closely resembles my wife is purely coincidental.

15 years ago today I married the waifu of my anime dreams. The realest of all tsundere. A woman who will not put up with any nonsense. A woman of razor wit and cold intelligence that will put lesser men in their tracks. A woman who didn't need me, but chose to want me for being me.

Kill la Kill has sat on my top 3 favorite anime for the last 12 years. Having both Matoi Ryuuko and Kiruyin Satsuki in their iconic transformation poses is such a joy to see. Pity they have slightly different height scales, but its close enough that I'm not upset.

Finally as a little blurb in the final episode, I love how Chin-Lan responds in Hokkien given she's from Taiwan. I just find it funny because my wife and her family speak it too and you don't really hear it in media a lot.

Speaking of ending, I am going to miss how the show does its unique backstory exposition slideshow with the end credits. That and its mid episode art has always been gorgeous.

Kamiina Botan stands as one of my favourite yuri anime. Slow burn, matured drama, peppered with real world alcohol, music and movie references. It really is the kind of show you watch in quiet appreciation as you sip on a good drink (preferably alcohol that the show recommends).

So many shows to finish off. I can only do Kamiina Botan and Agents of the Four Seasons tonight before I fly off to Malaysia tomorrow. Also realised that Ramparts of Ice is also 14 episodes, otherwise I would have finished it by this week.

Akane thinking about dropping out from university to go all into music which she loves is such a relatable choice we all have to make one day To be consumed by what (or who) we love, is our heaven and hell. A path few would have to courage to thread.

Gujo cautiously flirting with Chin-Lan in Kamiina Botan's latest episode is a masterclass of awkward and smooth that I will always aspire to be. Also props to the entire scene talking about cult classic movies they like.

In line with breaking sick tropes. First everyone masks up to visit the sick person. Now there is more than one person in the room visiting the sick person. Unmasked and causing hijinks.

000

Edrei "Daemons of the Four Seasons Hotels" Zahari @kamigoroshi.net · 17/06/2026

In romance tropes, when one has the cold, the other person takes care of them without any protective gear then they too get sick. Second Prettiest Girl is perhaps the first show where they rock up with face masks. Well, up until they stop doing it and sleep together.

Big Tobacco agenda coming back strong these days.

000

Edrei "Daemons of the Four Seasons Hotels" Zahari @kamigoroshi.net · 10/06/2026

Like it really feels like there is no room in the show itself to process such a heavy scene. It was just over and back to the rom-com moments in a flash. I wonder if the LN/Manga expands on this more? I hope it does.

000

Edrei "Daemons of the Four Seasons Hotels" Zahari @kamigoroshi.net · 10/06/2026

The one thing I hope people realise is that Maki himself understands that his parents are too far gone. It was just something he had to say before it broke him completely. Which is why my only misgiving is that the show didn't give any room for his tantrum to breath.

110

Edrei "Daemons of the Four Seasons Hotels" Zahari @kamigoroshi.net · 10/06/2026

Second Prettiest Girl continues to hone in on one of the more realistic backstory conflicts in a rom-com, the child of a divorced family. The feeling of being torn between 2 parents and the self-blame. It's rare that anime touches this, so it hits hard in a good way.
