I always find this discourse kinda fascinating because while I’m theoretically included in the amab enby category, it’s very much not about me. I’m femme enough to generally be perceived as a woman (or at least woman-adjacent) and I prefer that.

Even if they were right about the second part, how do they know he’s not already transitioned? I’ve gone out using he/him pronouns and wearing a binder, while I’d been on HRT for 13 years. If my gender was more aligned that way, I would do it more often and basically be him myself.

I’ve seen people talking like being biased against “people who rape” (calling people ‘rapists’ is dehumanizing language I guess??) is some kind of anti-rehabilitative bigotry and not… being skeptical and wanting to keep ourselves and others safe by not engaging with them.

I get that she’s being annoying and dense (from our perspective), but I really don’t think calling her a psychopath is warranted. She’s likely autistic and maybe has some kind of moral OCD? Not to diagnose her through a screen or anything, just from my familiarity with the type.

I really appreciate it too, as an allistic who is trying to understand where the breakdown in communication happened with this whole thing. It can be difficult to turn off the ingrained social norms to see the other side, and most don’t even try when they don’t realize it might be the issue.

It’s possible! But I think it can also just be different interpretations. I think autism/allism may just be affecting how likely someone is to interpret it one way or the other, and why it’s being such an entrenched disagreement.

Speaking as someone who initially read it as rape apologia… it was not willful misreading. It took reading it literally and understanding she’s autistic (and therefore likely didn’t even see some of the implications I read into it) to see it how she probably intended it, and how defenders read it.

I totally get having complicated feelings, I think it’s completely valid and understandable. That said, I don’t understand the confusion about how to feel. Disgusted, angry, etc, these aren’t things that require dehumanization, we can have those feelings and acknowledge he’s human at the same time.

With a more charitable reading I could see it not being literally rape apologia, but it is at least focusing on the worst people speaking against him and pretending the majority is saying the same thing as them. It’s pretending people with Zero Tolerance are saying he’s permanently bad because of it

As a third party, it’s never okay to independently forgive someone for rape. That’s not something anyone but the victim could theoretically do. No reform that is genuine is inevitable.

Going with this outline of what rape apologia is: her initial “refuge in uncertainty” is very evocative of False Allegation Panic. Throughout it she struggles with his “moral identity”, effectively Making Excuses and not having a Zero Tolerance Policy.

So if transmisogyny is the intersection of misogyny and homophobia. I've noticed a benevolent prejudice/positive stereotype with many of my cis women friends/colleagues where I'm both one of the girls AND a gay bestie. It's not like bad exactly, but it's interesting.
