ime nonviolent communication can solve a lot of relationship problems. but, um. not all of them. at least, not problems that ride in with the storm and settle into the whites of your girlfriend's eyes ...anyway, please enjoy Kaitlin's and my cowritten sapphic horror story, it's free to read!

Issue 4 of Adventitious is out! In it is "Life Imitates," Kaitlin's and my coauthored sapphic horror story in which therapy speak is how they get ya, and self-gaslighting invites in more than mere self-doubt... Subscribe to read it now, or be patient and read it later—if they don't get ya first.

Introducing...the astounding cover for Issue Four (out Aug 1) by artist Kevin McKie! I've never seen anything like it. 😍📸 It's part of a larger graphic novel project Kevin is creating, which you can see on Insta. www.instagram.com/mckie.illust... He also sells prints! www.etsy.com/listing/4522...
A vintage-toned comic book-style magazine cover on warm terracotta-peach paper. The masthead reads "adventitious / Issue Four" in bold yellow-green lettering with a small teal astronaut figure perched on the letter "d." The main image shows a camera-headed robot's hand holding a large-format camera pointed directly at the viewer while in an overgrown, jungle-like landscape with yellow flowers and lush greenery. To the upper right, an inset panel depicts a stack of layered transparency sheets in blue, yellow, and teal, arranged in an exploded-diagram style. Below, three field-note-style panels with handwritten caption text (rendered in a fictional script) show: a crablike alien figure with an exposed brain struggling in a rocky orange landscape; a blue frog-like creature on a stick; and a close-up of a large caterpillar or larva with iridescent markings beside a dark egg or pod. The overall palette is muted and warm with pops of teal and yellow, evoking mid-century scientific illustration crossed with underground comics.

"I'll love you in every lifetime." Is that a promise, or a threat? This is my favorite story I've ever written. I'm honored to see it (and hear it!) in Escape Pod.

Hugo noms are open, and I'd love to put forth "Be Kind and Rewind" for your consideration. One year ago, on Valentine's day, Wyngraf published a story about queer/trans love that I coauthored with my lovely partner @kaitlinschmidt4.bsky.social. I'm a hack, but she made our story brilliant anyway.

I had the time of my life at Worldcon! I volunteered, met new friends, added books to my TBR list, and spoke on panels. It was a delight to nerd out in Editing as an Art Form, giggle my way through Twenty Years of Twilight, and regroup with my writing group at the end of the day. @seattlein2025.org

I’m so pleased to finally be able to share my winning NYC Midnight story with everyone. I write about grief often—it’s how I process, and how I work though my fears. This story was no exception.
