Why I love Supernatural— A Love Letter to Fandom

On the 20th anniversary of the 2005 hit CW series ‘Supernatural’, I’ve found myself asking this question. Why do I love this show so much?

Ahh my fiancée is a zookeeper which is fantastic because I get to give all the barn animals pets and treats for free (and watch her be totally awesome at her job) 💗

Every time I leave the house I listen to Monster of the Week. It’s my routine. It’s so bittersweet listening to it right now. I’m glad we still have these to listen to. I’m glad he’s not in pain anymore. Just wish we could’ve gotten that through a different outcome.

My friend Jeremy Greer, cohost of the Monster of the Week podcast, passed away this morning. He & Chris created the best corner of the internet in their server. He’s been my friend since 2018 & I’m gonna miss him every day. The world is worse today for Jeremy not being in it. Rest in peace, gamer.

I haven’t been able to find the words. I’ve never had a better friend than Jeremy. He was an incredibly special person, and anyone who’s ever talked to him or listened to one of his shows knows that. I’m incredibly fortunate for the time I had with him. He did so much good. Love forever, brother.

Okay fine! I won’t talk about how all of Sam’s “I’m a freak” coding is clearly a parallel for queerness and that I headcannon him as afab. FINE.

god loves you, but not enough to save you

a digital drawing of sam winchester in the panic room, he is strapped to a wooden cross table with the demon trap under him. his eyes are closed in a pained expression, and his hair is down under his head, you can see his top lip and teeth above the shackles. he is wearing flannel and jeans, with bare hands and feet. he has mental shackles on each ankle, his waist, his hips, his arms and wrists and two on his head. there is blood splattered across him and the floor. on the top left side, in bloody capitalised text it says “God loves you but” and on the bottom right side it finished with “not enough to save you”, which is lyrics from ethel cain’s song ‘sun bleached flies’

I WISHED DEAN A HAPPY BIRTHDAY ON X BUT NOT HERE I LOVE YOU DEAN MY BABY BOY

030

kai | rw on s12 || SPN NJ 🫶🏽 @kailovesharry.bsky.social · 16/01/2025

Dean said “I need you” because needing someone, trusting that they will always have your back, believing in them, was something that always ended with him getting hurt. Dean’s “I need you” is more powerful than an I love you. Love is a risk, needing someone is full surrender.

I don't even get mad when people make fun of others for being in fandom. I genuinely feel bad for them. They will never know the sense of family& community you get from being a part of a fandom, the comfort of having characters&friends you love to get you through. Nothing better. #SPNFamily I ❤️ u😘
