The Go-Man series features an assortment of monsters, known in universe as Giant Organisms or G.O.s These are all the ones we've seen so far in Books 1 and 2. Do you have a favourite? My patrons have also seen a couple of other future monsters, link in bio for more info!

Four monsters, called Saushi, Kazaran, Mototem and Ash aka Baby Salazanda

Sasushi is a shark on two legs with a large spike on its head like a swordfish. Kazaran looks like a dinosaur armadillo on all fours with volcanoes on its back. Mototem is a purple millipede covered in spikes and horns. And ash is an axolotl like creature.

Four more monsters called Scarapin, Tobura, Bentomushi and Subtagon.

Scarapin resembles a scorpion on two legs. Tobura is a house fly. Bentomushi looks like a lady bug. And Subtagon is some kind of reptile with drills for hands and snail like raised eyes.

Final four monsters called Wanira, Ramesses, Krillink and Momora.

Wanira is a giant crocodile on two legs with a flag tail. Ramesses looks like an elephant mixed with a bull. Krillink is some kind of purple worm parasite with claws. And Momora is a gorilla with the texture of an earthworm.

The last thing I'll say, and the best compliment I can give is that I think this work embodies the spirit of Ishiro Honda in a way few Godzilla comics have. From sociopolitical issues, war, and latchkey kids. This takes the "Kaiju are too big for this world" quote and pulls at your heartstrings.

I also love the baddies (duh). And this volume has some great ones. Murder Hornet, Spigera, and even Robug Red (yes. I'm calling him a villain). It will be really interesting to see where this Hulk/Thunderbolt Ross dynamic goes with Go-Man and Robug Red. Also, the ending made me audibly gasp.

Ash is also a character I feel in my bones. Holding grudges without true reason, and an empathy for animals. Hamish does a really good job of portraying the "bully" character in a way that doesn't feel like treaded ground. It's a unique take.

I also relate to Grace immensely. I have always felt weak, powerless, and often envious of friends. But, too, also would never want to make those feelings known at risk of ruining a friendship. Her arc in this book is really, really well done.

Tobi makes me cry. And not in a bad way. I just see myself in him. I've not been diagnosed with Autism (yet) but from what I understand ADHD has a lot of crossover with Autism (still very different). I, too, constantly fear everyone is mad at me. I, too, get overwhelmed to the point of meltdown

This is where the book truly shines. Taking heavy themes of death, regulating Autism, and animal conservation and applying into a story that both children and adults can enjoy. It never talks down to them. I identify with this book so much. I see aspects of myself in the entire cast.

Speaking of Marvel Comics, I know from conversations with Hamish, that he was reading a lot of Ditko/Lee Spidey. And it shows here, but it takes a life of its own. Rather than dealing with girls and money and a constantly dying Aunt, Tobi is dealing with fitting in, loneliness, and sensory overload

I don't think it's a big revelation to state that the art is so good. Combining elements of classic Marvel comics, manga, Nickelodeon, and even things like Mega Man and fusing that with Tokusatsu in brilliant fashion. The monster designs are never overwrought. The baddies look so cool, too.

First off, the humor is a delight. It's wholesome, reminiscent of a Nickelodeon cartoon without crossing the threshold of gross out humor. And it's all in the characters interactions and reactions. My favorite is the Principal and Louis bit.

Big thanks to @kaijucomiccast.bsky.social for finding the Genforcer project and making this happen! This is a great read for anyone who wants an inside look on how toku is made from the ground up in other countries, but my favorite part is how they speak about AI in toku.

KU: It was great to see that you won’t be using generative AI. What drove you to take that stance?

BY: I don’t feel like it’s as much of a big deal as people make it out to be, as much as it is the right thing to do. Tokusatsu superhero shows often speak about doing the right thing, saving the world, a better future, etc. It can’t be better if we’re selfishly destroying our means for survival for our own personal or corporate gain.

As a team, we felt the need to make our policy on Generative AI extremely clear because we’re a little tired from entertaining talk about the ‘potential’ of using Gen AI to accelerate production and reduce costs.

Also, as a creative, if we really want to make Tokusatsu, and if it’s going to be such a huge part of what makes our project tick, I think that we have to remember that special effects filmmaking matters as much as the superhero element does. Using Generative AI to speedrun the process defeats the whole purpose of it being Tokusatsu in the first place. It may be a product, but it won’t be Tokusatsu.

Today would've been the sixty-fifth birthday of Yu-Gi-Oh! creator Kazuki Takahashi. It tends to get swallowed up in the enormous franchise it became, but I truly believe that his original manga can provide a valuable lesson to artists about process and work and improvement over time.
