Just doing my part to knock down autocrats (and aspiring autocrats) wherever I can

I missed this at the time, and maybe you did too. This argument is not only correct on the merits, it corresponds to everything we know about how to win elections. State your case clearly, have a servant leadership mindset, and don't backtrack or wobble.

The youngest person his pager attack killed was 9-year-old Fatima Abdullah, who had just started 4th grade. The pager was on a table when it went off and she picked it up to take to her dad. It exploded in her face and reports said it covered the room in her blood. She wanted to learn English.

It's the baked-into-the-crust evangelical Christianity. There is no contrition or repentance needed, and no intermediary between you and forgiveness.

Every time the GOP claims to be the party of national security, I want folks to remember this and the many other natsec screwups that have plagued this administration as a direct result of officer and civilian leadership purges. It's Stalin ahead of WW2 all over again.

A lovely essay from @juderogers.bsky.social on the ebb and flow of history, on cowardice, and on all the people who are still here even if somehow the aforementioned cowards have decided they shouldn't be.

This should be a wake up call for all of my fellow Americans, particularly the Ukrainian Flag in Profile folks. We are the neo imperialist state whose leader openly questions the sovereignty and legitimacy of our neighbor.

Kudos to ProPublica for this incredible reporting. The Trump family's corruption is vast and horrifying, but also has real policy implications. Trump's son receives lavish gifts from Gazprom execs while Trump himself calls on Ukraine to stop targeting Russian oil refineries.

I am a single-issue voter, and that issue is "are you actively repeating the inflammatory, unscientific, inaccurate, or hateful language the GOP uses to make normal shit sound scary, thereby reinforcing the idea that it IS scary even as you attempt to distinguish yourself from the GOP in other ways"

Mark my words. A private entity will pick up this role (transporting kids from base to school) and it will be a no bid contract.

Bafflingly, the NYT is absolutely able to call out politically-motivated transphobia elsewhere, including in their extremely well-reported story *today* on Russia's efforts to subvert Moldovan democracy. They literally wrote about Russian propaganda leveraging fear of gender neutral bathrooms.

Don't sleep on how Russia is leveraging.....fear of gender-neutral bathrooms as part of their hybrid attacks on Moldovans and their democracy. It's almost as though the anti-trans movement is part of a broader authoritarian playbook www.nytimes.com/2026/08/14/w...

Russia Campaigned to Derail Moldova’s Pro-Western Government
In the tiny nation, Moscow paid Orthodox priests, conducted a vote-buying scheme and set up training camps on election interference — all in an effort to derail the Western-leaning government.

I feel like the downing of MH17 was, if not the advent, then surely the most successful proof of concept when it came to this approach. Just flood the zone with conflicting stories and people will either grasp on to the one that confirms their priors, or just give up on ever knowing what happened.

Ukraine intercepted only one ballistic missile last night because the country has run out of missiles for its Patriot systems. In Kyiv, nine people were killed and 30 injured. Every delayed decision eventually arrives in Ukraine in the form of death and destruction.

Yet another flood of videos from Russians weeping over the "shock" and "unfairness" of strikes on a Wildberries warehouse. It doesn't cross their minds how unfair it felt when we were just living our lives, bothering no one, in our own country and our own homes,

I mean, this is basically backed up by the literature and practice of democratic transitions. A sustainable transition must have: prosecution of wrongdoing; truth and reconciliation processes; and reparations. Some would add lustration to the list.

I'm seeing folks speculate on DVT given "long haul" to Ukraine, but a friendly reminder that you cannot fly to Kyiv. His likely route was IAD-FRA-WAW None of those legs are particularly long and a first class traveler like Graham would basically have just gone to sleep in DC and woken up in Germany

Shocking moment of today's Russian strike on Sumy, which killed 5 people‼️ Please do not look away! No mother should be forced to cover her children's bodies with her own like this. No child should have to live through such horrors!

One of the only tactics that works to build public support for democracy during a period of backsliding is to directly link the regime's corruption to citizens' quality of life Schiff wildly misses the mark by placing the blame externally rather than internally, doing Trump's work for him

This was always class solidarity, but not in the way they wanted us to believe. Just a couple of Ivy League alums and a rich kid Hotchkiss drop-out carelessly playing with our democracy because none of the fallout was ever going to hit them personally.

Venezuela quake: The most useful thing to give after a major catastrophe is cash. But it can be tricky figuring out where to send the cash where it’ll have the biggest impact. Local charities with known track records & connections work best, but… they’re the ones also struggling in the aftermath.

Absolutely. I'd add an obligatory plug for democracy & governance programs, which provide funding, technical assistance, and peer-to-peer support for anti-corruption watchdogs who have a role in preventing state capture of aid.

It's also an easy to understand example of Trump's particular brand of corruption. No bid deals leading to a poor quality product leading to wasting taxpayer funds. We know from Poland/Hungary that anti corruption messaging works

Do folks remember the 2014 Sochi Olympics and the near-constant construction fails due to massive graft and no-bid contracts to Putin associates? The Sochi Games let the Russian opposition clearly link corruption/state capture to national humiliation, a lesson I'm begging Democrats to learn.

I wish the author had done more to anchor the school's philosophy in what appears to be its socialist utopian roots. It's just so American to spend this many words describing a Kropotkin style commune but never situate the theory in that tradition.

I can't get over how much Vira in particular looks like she could be just one of my teen's stage crew friends, hanging out around the fire pit after wrapping a show. Vira and Lyubava had their whole lives ahead of them, and died for Russia's imperial goals. My heart breaks for their mother.

Back in Ye Olden Days, when we bothered to fund public schools even a little bit, it was common to take kids on field trips to the theater. This served the dual purpose of exposing kids to Raisin in the Sun or whatever, and teaching the next generation how to behave in the theater.

It's all pieces of the same puzzle. The very same people want to ban birth control/abortion and repeal the Indian Child Welfare Act It's all in service of a brand of Christianity in which your family is not complete until you've adopted so many kids you need a full-sized van to transport them all

For those who need some historical touch points, the last time the Hagia Sophia was a Christian church, William Shakespeare was a century from being born. The War of the roses had not yet started. Christopher Columbus had not yet begun his campaign of genocide in the Caribbean.
