What? No. www.usatoday.com/story/news/p...
From USA Today article, the claim that Katie Zacharia worked in China as "outside counsel for the World Bank."

Zacharia attended Pepperdine University's Caruso School of Law and Seaver College, both in the Los Angeles area. Trump said she was involved with his campaigns in key swing states. Married with four children, she spent three years in China that included working as outside counsel for the World Bank, was president of the Christian Legal Society and worked in the White House Office of Political Affairs, according to a public biography.

Great "OpSec" by Guilfoyle, who was reportedly agog at Deters "papering" their shenanigans. Ambassador's personal phone? Hand it over to... some guy! Ambassador's personal phone full of "papering" of her grifting? Well, "no pockets!" So what can ya do? Shrug emoji!
She handed her phone to Marafatsos before taking the stage for a panel titled “Energy Security, Regional Cooperation and Strategic Partnerships.” (Guilfoyle’s lawyer said he held her personal phone because her dress had no pockets.)

Trump barely maintains a grip on a ceremonial sword, while swaying like an idiot among Saudi royals during what looks like a celebratory dance, with a look on his face like Bugs Bunny just dropped a jar of ether on the floor, all during a bribery visit from his first, extremely stupid term in office.

An Atlanta prosecutor engaged in misconduct, and yet you VISITED Atlanta. (He did not.) Curious!
Famous frame from Matt Bors' "Mr. Gotcha" cartoon, in which Mr. Gotcha, peeping out from the top of a well with a big shit-eating grin on his face, catches a haggard and downtrodden medieval peasant saying, "We should improve society somewhat," and responds, "Yet you participate in society. Curious! I am very intelligent."

So, did they spell demolition wrong? Looks like an S where there should be a T. Does it say “demolision?” Or is this supposed to be a mock-up of a future headline that says “demolished?” Or what?

That famous, incredibly goofy-faced golden statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest.

This bizarre, deranged-looking depiction of General Nathan Bedford Forrest is a rare example of a Confederate monument that, rather than being sculpted with dignity and grace, accurately reflects the ugliness of its subject. However this was not the intent of sculptor Jack Kershaw—who is primarily known for defending the assassin of Martin Luther King Jr.—when he put it up in plain view of Tennessee’s Highway I-65.

Just stumbled across this post of mine from May 2009, summarizing my observations from a White House meeting between Obama and detainee policy/civil liberties advocates. Lol, I guess it's the future, now.
I’m still concerned, for instance, that the Republican theory of executive power with respect to detainee policy — something the President referred to as “anything goes” in his speech today — is in fact the Republican theory of executive governance in general. That poses an extraordinarily broad array of difficulties, not the least of which is that it’s an open an ongoing threat to the greater Obama agenda, which is itself often invoked as a reason for not dabbling in the “distraction” of “looking backward.” But unless we can demarcate Cheneyism — the “anything goes” philosophy as explicitly illegal, unconstitutional and illegitimate, its continued existence (and threatened practice by future administrations) calls into question the value and durability of the whatever parts of the Obama agenda are ultimately implemented, on detainee policy or anything else.

That’s a huge problem, though it clearly was beyond the intended scope of this meeting. But I’m hopeful that there will be more opportunities to discuss this broader context in the future.

Watching Trump revive Bush/Cheney era domestic surveillance, "picking up right where the last Republican president left off, and doing the same and worse," has me thinking about this old Newsweek piece from 2009. And who do you think the questioner was? www.newsweek.com/obama-faces-...
Screen shot of text from May 20, 2009 Newsweek article entitled "Obama Faces Friendly Fire Over Terror Policies":

It was at that point, toward the end of the meeting, that one attendee raised the idea of criminal prosecution of at least one Bush-era official, if only as a symbolic gesture. Obama dismissed the idea, several of those in attendance said, making it clear that he had no interest in such an investigation. Holder—whose department is supposed to make the call on criminal prosecutions—reportedly said nothing.

The $360,000 statue, commissioned by cryptocurrency entrepreneurs and backers of then-candidate Trump, has waited more than a year to be erected, partly because sculptor Alan Cottrill has yet to get paid.

There’s a podcast where we know these things off the top of our heads, and talk about them all the time, including six months before it appears in the New York Times. If that’s something you care about, maybe you want to subscribe and support us? Patreon.com/kagrox We also make jokes. It is fun.
Screenshot from July 27,2026 NYT opinion piece “What’s the Worst Thing Trump Can Do in the Midterms?”: Under the procedures of the House, the speaker can install a more compliant successor - that is, a G.O.P. toady. In this scenario, Speaker Johnson's designee, at Mr. Trump's instigation, would produce a roll of new House members that included Republicans in races that Democrats believed they had won.Screenshot of my January 15, 2026 post: Who would be admitted to the floor of the House to participate in constituting the new House would presumably be decided between the Clerk and the Sergeant at Arms (appointed by the Speaker, elected by the House, and continuing in office between Congresses until replaced).

Question: Nearly every toss-up election this cycle is in a state controlled by a Democratic governor and a Democratic Secretary of State or their equivalent. So who is going to refuse to certify?

Reply: I think at that point in the process, you're talking about a refusal to accept credentials, which falls in the first instance to the Clerk of the House.

Don't know much about the incumbent, except that it's a position awarded by majority vote of the House, and so at least potentially partisan.
