Hi, just finished my last day after working 30 years, 5 months and 31 days. Wee bit tired, slightly sad but surprisingly ecstatic. Looking forward to what is ahead.🧚‍♂️

Thank you to you have handed me a helping hand as I’ve transitioned to not being out in front leading and teaching me there is something to learn from that. But mostly thank you for being kind to a person that has been working since she was 9, living on her own at 14 until she got married 2/x

Well, I put in the papers & announced that after 30 years of working in state government, I am retiring with a last day of work as of 8/31/26. Mixes feelings as I’ve had major accomplishments. I’ve also made mistakes that thankfully only really impacted me. 1/1

No pic, because…but my 115 Bernese will lay on the feet of whomever is on the toilet, while his 80 lb Golden will lay on the space that your feet might need for you to get up. Old house, teeny bathrooms. To get up, the toilet paper is in one jar, treats in another, & we suggest being fast.

Thank you! I really meant when I answered a question for my 1st public job. Afterwards my supervisor said she made $ on me being the only one of that group meaning it. How? Only 1 didn’t wash out & end up with 3 caseloads. I might have needed a hobby😂

All of this happened when I realized that until I get the same answer twice that I can’t afford to retire at 30 years of public service employment but age almost 55. I ain’t paying the Fed early retirement penalty. Especially when I think I have 1 of the 17 exceptions.

How about Blowhole being responsible for me not being able to retire in September when I have my 30 public service years i? It’s more that tax accountants can’t give the same answer 2x even when I read IRS exceptions to them. Maybe I take a 2nd job at 54 1/2. Little cranky, my health needs A Break.

I always knew my time would come and that most of the people I was helping to do things a new way, probably kicked ass the old way. And should be respected. The worst part of going out now is that, with one exception, the new peeps have no respect for the people of the old way.

I used to be really good at working with people to help them determine if they wanted to stay at a job that was changing (and I would hold their hand if necessary) or if they wanted to find something new (my co worker was great at that…too bad she passed away before I needed her).

And just to be clear, I’m poking fun at myself a bit. “In the old days…” I was a project manager/business analyst and might have had some control issues😉 But being at this stage of my life having had what feels like an emotional & mental ass-kicking from a job does help me understand a few things.

I will say I didn’t have a role model for retirement growing up. Work until you are too sick to work then get fired was the most used paradigm. And until the last 2 years, I liked working & planned to continue so I could have insurance. Then 2016 happened and worse 2024.

I, nobody of importance, feel the need to share info most of you already know, but just in case: It’s not the smartest to schedule multiple medical and legal appointments for you and your spouse (& kids if they are part of it) in a 4 week period as close to your retirement date as possible.

My Bjorn turned 5 in May & while my spouse is currently getting cataract surgery, I’m holding on to Bjorn, bawling my eyes out. Grateful that Bunsen did so well (remember being terrified for you). And this is the spouse’s 2nd cataract surgery & he’s healing great from the first. Love you Bunsen💜

Part of this is I’m past due the date I should have left but health got in the way. Part is that I’m a three year old wanting someone to say “Happy 30th Anniversary” even if they don’t mean it. I think I have 3 months left. And I know the people who will miss me are already gone.

Had one of those days that 80’s raised tv might understand. I was in for a check up that needs to tell me how much longer I have to hold on to the good insurance. I said, “I have my 30 yrs in so, if you find someone let’s take care of it very soon. Retirement date is coming up”

I know in the grand scheme of things that working a five more months is a privilege that lot would LOVE. And pretty much everyone has things harder. Just whining that for a couple of days the personal selfishness of 24-26 was done & I might start to be useful politically or at least help someone.

My tool mechanic husband is livid about no parts being available for the fridge. And where the parts need to be fixed doesn’t have screws because they don’t expect to you fix it, you buy a new one. I have me a “special” kitchen layout and measurements as house is from 1920 (& limited outlets.)
