Ooh, finally have something in this new WIP (yes it's messy; first draft, worst draft, as I like to whisper to myself late at night)

“Frederica,” said Anise, enunciating every excruciating inch of Fred’s legal name as they took her hand between both of theirs. “I’m moving to Maine.”
Fred’s brain glitched. “Maine?” Where’s that, she almost added, but thankfully her mouth was too dry.
“Lily’s family lives out there and she’s always wanted…” Anise’s carefully thought-out explanation rolled over Fred, but she couldn’t hear anything else over the buzzing panic in her ears.
The cardboard boxes appeared within the week, along with the frightening realization that without a job or a roommate, she was about to be homeless. Anise had promised to ask their friends...

In the current WIP I'm editing, there's a lingua franca in the city and among researchers, but the quirks of individual languages still bleed through. #SFFChat I do have an ongoing bit with a specific language being used for warnings, but it's always poorly translated:
