Uncle just said in Achomi: Starbucks te kone bez ham haste ستاربکس تِه کُنِ بِز هم هَسته "there's Starbucks even on a wasp's ass" i.e. you can find it everywhere bez بِز 'wasp' (probably onomatopoeic like English buzz, or from Middle Persian wabz 'wasp')

Similar thing happens in some southern Iranian dialects. The preposition a اَ can be both 'to' and 'from'. a šar a dar andin 'they came out of the town' In this sentence, the first a is 'from' and the second a is 'to'.

A large fishing net in Bahrain is called ġazil غزل, pl. ġzūl غزول, i.e. 'spun or woven thing'.

The unthinkable happened. US-Israeli bombs have damaged the Qajar palace complex of Golestan in central Tehran. The hall of mirrors is damaged. 200 year old wooden panels are destroyed. I have no idea what else. This is now personal.

The same verb means 'to close' in Bahrain and eastern Saudi. bannad, ybannid, etc From Hindi-Urdu band 'closed', from Persian band- 'to close'.

The only ones in Bahraini Arabic I know of (but are now old-timey and obsolete): bulīsxāna 'police station' karxāna 'sewing machine'

Bahraini Arabic word of the day ʕār, yʕūr 'to double over' خلاني اعور من الضحك xallāni āʕūr min iḏ̣-ḏ̣iḥik 'He made me double over with laughter' (I've only ever heard it in the present tense)

Earliest attestation is in a verse from the 10th century Baghdadi cookbook Kitāb al-Ṭabīkh: وأركبت ساف لحم فوق أليته وساف من بصل حلو ومن تمن 'A layer of meat underneath of which lies a layer of its own fat, and another of sweet onion, another of rice'

Twitter sucks (doesn't send notifications to people I reply to and wastes my time), and I remembered that this place exists. Wow, a lot of names I haven't seen in ages here
