This has been an annoying part of indie RPG content creation for as long as I've been in that scene. It breaks an essential rule of sales! Don't even mention the competition. That just makes the punter think about something other than your product! SELL YOUR THING ON ITS MERITS.

Started in 1988 or 89, 1e AD&D. First non-D&D game was Middle-earth Roleplaying, or MERP, which was a Rolemaster game. Since then I've played dozens of different systems and settings. So much fun! 😊

It's certainly one of the reasons I created my game. For decades I was content to play other people's systems. 5E's flaws got to me, and its ubiquity triggered my Punk Button.
