Burnham can’t win. Last week he was viewed as too free and loose with grand claims about electoral reform, rejoining the EU, and national social care. This week he is a mere tinkerer in petty retail politics. Make your minds up people!

Well then you wouldn't have time for my OH, or me for that matter. 🤷‍♀️

Having had some time to reflect on the demonstrations I saw in Paris on Saturday, here are my thoughts. First, I fully support the right to protest. In the 6ème, I saw students marching. Go students! But what I DO NOT SUPPORT are police blocking routes and charging the march. It was DANGEROUS.

Go to your camera roll and search "boat" and then post a picture of a boat you like

French riots: Some photos and videos making the rounds in social media lack context, or are AI-generated. Both Iranian and Russian propaganda accounts are attacking France using fakes, but they are not alone. Russian: France is burning. Iran: amplify claims made my protestors.

I wonder if they've priced in the potential for 4 interest rate rises.

We are a retirement destination. The pressure on services is massive. Land and house prices are becoming unaffordable for the younger generations in regular employment, being fuelled by retirees (in their 50's, not 'boomers'), leaving the big cities.

People here, more so Royan, cannot get a Dr. or dentist. When we lived in Meschers a Dr. retired. His patients had no replacement until recently. The neglect goes back a few years. It'll take that time to mend it. My OH had to wait several weeks for hospital rdv after high psa reading. It's real.

It's not the utopia I read here. I know, my grandchildren are born and brought up here. My daughter and partner both work here. They're struggling. The elite are now more disconnected than ever. It's so sad to see such decline.

It's appalling. The reality of the decline of our services versus the romanticised version. I think a reckoning is coming.

INFLATION Not the government headline rate, no, the real and painful existential rises, the real life unaffordability crisis. You have to witness this pain to fully understand it. The consequences are inevitable. This is, after all, France 🇫🇷

..at some times over a week. A&E are triaging at the doors, turning people away who arrive under their own steam. As my neighbour said a while ago, 'where is the money?' Pupils having months of missing classes because teacher is off sick, there is no replacement teacher. Brevet impacted.

All roads lead back to the covid years. Educational neglect for the many, but not the few. The hollowing out of local accessible government services. Public facing fonctionnaires still working from home, face to face appts now in weeks not days. Dr appts no longer same day, now several days wait..
